Comprehensive Virtues of Character and Greatness of
Personality – in the light of the sayings of Scholars

Hazrat Umar Radiallahu anhoo says that Allah has given Hazrat Ali AlaihisSalam three special and unique virtues. Had one of them been given to me, I could have been happier than the one having a red camel (i.e. qualitatively better than other camels). When he was asked about those three unique qualities, he said,

“(i) Hazrat Ali AlaihisSalam marriage with Fatima-bint-e-Rasulallahit, (ii) the peace of mind which he has in the mosque which I do not have and (iii) his receiving the flag in Khyber.”

1. Hazrat Umar Radiallahu anhoo says, “Hazrat Ali AlaihisSalam marriage with Hazrat Fatima AlahisSalam has a great significance and importance. Had I got this opportunity, I would have considered it to be dearer than any of the worldly wealth.”

In fact, this was a great and precious wealth because; Hazrat Fatima AlahisSalam was the best among all the ladies. It was because of the significance and importance of this relation that Hazrat Ali AlaihisSalam was in the centre of all the progeny of Huzur ﷺ and the genealogy of Huzur ﷺ, which is the personification of all the blessings and grace came into existence from Hazrat Ali AlaihisSalam. The branches of this holy tree were the Hussnain-eKarimain . Ahl-e-bait (descendents of holy Prophet ﷺ), including Hazrat Ghous-ul- Aazam, Hazrat Khwaja Ajmeri and lacs and crores of other spiritual leaders.

2. Hazrat Umar adds, “Hazrat Ali AlaihisSalam has been bestowed with one more privilege that he can pass through the mosque even during his physical impurity. I am not given that right. Had I got that fortunate privilege, I would have considered it to be more valuable than any worldly wealth.” Hazrat Ali AlaihisSalam privilege has been described in Hadiths also. Hence, Huzur ﷺ says, “O, Ali AlaihisSalam pass through this mosque in the conditions of physical impurity (Halat-e-Janabat) is not proper for anyone else except you.”( Sunan-i-Tirmizi Vol-2)

3. Hazrat Umar Radiallahu anhoo also narrates one more favour Hazrat Ali AlaihisSalam had been fortunate enough to get, and that was, he got the flag of victory of Khyber. He says, “Had I got that fortunate privilege, I would have considered it to be more valuable than any worldly wealth”.

It has been stated above that Huzur ﷺ said, “Tomorrow I will give the flag (Parcham) to one who is the most beloved of Allah and his Rasul ﷺ .” All the companions were eager to get this fortunate opportunity, including Hazrat Umar but this honour was given to Hazrat Ali AlaihisSalam. Then all the people present there came to realise that Hazrat Ali AlaihisSalam had got this privilege because he was the best-loved by Allah, the Almighty and his Rasul
