Finding Hazrat Ali AlaihisSalam problems, Muavia sent Basar bin Abi Irta, the most merciless of that age, with an army of three thousand soldiers during Hijri 40 to capture Mecca-eMuazzama and Medina-e-Munavvara.
At that time, Hazrat Abu Ayyub Ansari Radiallahu anhoo, in support of Hazrat Ali AlaihisSalam felt that it was not proper to attack, thinking about the prestige of Haram-eMedina. He left his heir and went to Kufa to Hazrat Ali AlaihisSalam for the consultation. Basar bin Irta took undue advantage of Sahaaba’s sobermindedness and killed the Sahaaba’s family members and their children in Haram-e-Medina. Many gentries’ houses were demolished. In short, he behaved very roughly and, creating a dreadful atmosphere, started arresting the Saha’abas. He told them, “Accept Amir-e-Mauvia as Caliph or else you will be killed.” He forced many people to take the oath of Amir-e-Mauvia, and then, went to Mecca-e-Muazzama. There also he did the same thing. He then went to Yemen and applied the same method. He killed Hazrat Abdullah bin Abbas Radiallahu anhoo two grown-up children. Besides this, he killed so many innocent persons and forced them to accept his supremacy in spiritual tradition.
When Amirul Mominin Hazrat Ali AlaihisSalam came to know about this happenings, he sent Hazrat Jaria bin Kidama Radiallahu anhoo and Hazrat Vahab bin Masa’udete to attack with an army of four thousand soldiers. Basar ran away when he heard about the arrival of this army, and the army of Hyderi established peace in Yemen, Mecca and Medina. Again, all of them accepted Hazrat Ali AlaihisSalam as their religious head, and in this way, the management of sacred places was regained.
