The Wisal of Holy Prophet ﷺ
At the time of Huzur ﷺ final departure, Hazrat Imam Hasan AlahisSalam was seven years and about six months old while Hazrat Imam Husain AlaihisSalam was six years and about seven months old. To describe the sorrow that was in the hearts of these innocent children at that time is beyond the capacity of words and speech of any historian. Huzurﷺ too was very much attached to these, his loved grandchildren. Imam Tabrani, Hafiz Ibn-i-Hajar Aasaaba and many other experts of Hadiths write in Tahazib-ut-Tahazib and their creations:
After bringing Hazrat Imam Hasan AlahisSalam and Hazrat Imam Husain AlaihisSalam to Huzur ﷺ at the time when he was breathing his last, Hazrat Fatema AlahisSalam said, ‘O Rasulallah ﷺ please bestow your inheritance to these children.’ He said, ‘To Hasan I am handing over my (haiat) prestige and leadership whereas, to Husain, I am giving my generosity and bravery, as my inheritance. By quoting Hafiz Ibn-i-Sanada and Hafiz Abu Naeem Allama Zarkanis also has narrated this episode in Sharh-i-Mavahib-ulDuniya Vol-3 with a little change of putting haibat (grandeur) instead of the word haiat (prestige). The words are given below:
‘I am giving Hasan AlahisSalam my quality of leadership, whereas, to Hussain AlahisSalam, I am giving the ability of generosity and bravery, as my inheritance.’
The sad demise of Huzur ﷺ caused enormous sorrow in the hearts of Hazrat Hasanain Karmain AlahisSalam
During the reign of Siddiq Radiallahu anhoo
The Caliphate of Hazrat Abu Bakr Siddiq Radiallahu anhoo lasted only two years, during which period; he took utmost care to protect the rights of Hasanain Karimain AlahisSalam. He used to tell other people also to respect their rights. In this connection, his under-mentioned episode, recorded in Sahih Bukhari, is very popular:
“Be respectful and humble in relation to Huzur ﷺ in connection with his descendants.”
Once, Hazrat Siddiq Radiallahu anhoo, in the overflow of love, made Hazrat Imam Hasan AlahisSalam ride on his shoulder, and spontaneously the following couplet sprang on his tongue:
Translation: I swear my father; he is like Nabi Pakﷺ and not like Hazrat Ali AlaihisSalam
During the reign of Faruque Radiallahu anhoo
Hazrat Umar Radiallahu anhoo Caliphate remained for ten years and six months. During this period Hazrat Imam Hasan AlahisSalam and Hazrat Imam Husain AlaihisSalam reached to youth. The period of Hazrat Faruq Radiallahu anhoo reign provided proper training and environment to grow in the right direction. From their holy father, Hazrat Ali AlaihisSalam, they received the knowledge and training about human rights, Islamic rules and commandments, the Holy Book, voluntary and obligatory duties and the way of proper worship. The foundation stone of all these potentials was laid by Huzur ﷺ in Hazrat Ali AlaihisSalam, which were bestowed upon the Holy grandsons. Their personalities were nurtured absolutely according to the commandments of Allah, the Almighty, through the Holy Book. So much so that if a person followed these two holy youths, along with their holy father, would never be misguided in his life. They were so intermingled with the Holy Quran-it has been given in the Hadiths that the messages of the Holy Quran, and the holy children were equivalent to each other. This means, as soon as one gets protection from them, he immediately is protected by the Holy Book. Both these holy grandchildren of Huzur ﷺ were nurtured and specially blessed by the prophet in such a way that there can be no shadow of untruth or anything that was against the religion. These two holy children were very fortunate in having a great person like Hazrat Ali AlaihisSalam as father and Huzur ﷺ as a grandfather. Due to these, they achieved the highest peaks of knowledge and spiritual destinations which are beyond the imagination of an ordinary man. These were the rightful heirs of Huzur ﷺ inheritance and the historical figures who were going to be remembered and honoured till the end of this world.
This was the greatness of Saiyedna Muhammad Rasulallah ﷺ holy grandchildren and true heirs of his prophethood and perfections.
The divine secret of the fact of Hazrat Ali AlaihisSalam not being selected as a Caliph was that, then only he could get a long time for the training, teaching and bringing up of the holy sons in the way Allah, the Almighty had destined. Along with his sons, he could give the advantage of his training to other people also.
Hazrat Umar respected Hazrat Hasnain AlahisSalam beyond any imagination. Hence, the remuneration fixed for Hazrat Hasanain Karimaim AlaihisSalam was higher than the one fixed for the children of other Sa’ahabas. Hazrat Badri-Sa’ahabas’ children’s remuneration was two thousand Dirhams whereas, that of Hazrat Hasnain Karimain AlaihisSalam was five thousand.
