Sayyiduna Hazrat Abu Talib’s (عليه السلام) verses of poetry in praise of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) clearly show he was given knowledge of the coming Prophet.
Hazrat Abu Talib (عليه السلام) is the last Wasi of Millat al-Hanif (The Ibrahimi Nation) and last Imam of Banu Ismail.
Before him all the ancestors of the Holy Prophet held this position and were the most superior to the rest humanity in their respective ages and lifetime exception of their contemporaries who were Prophets/Messengers.
This is mentioned by Allamah Saim Chishti (ra) in his book on Imane Abu Talib when discussing Imam Suhayli’s view.
