His Unique Qualities
He is the sixth Imam in the line of Qadariyyah and Rizwiyah tradition of Islamic mysticism (Sufism). He is the eldest son of Hazrat Imam Muhammad Baqir. His virtues are enumerable, and the unique qualities are numerous. He is rightly described as the king of prophethood and the perfect leader of the prophet’s religion. He was the real leader of the age and a man of practice. He had divine and miraculous powers. He was considered to be the expert of spiritual and worldly matters.
In Hafiz Abu Naim Ashfani’s Khalif-tul-Abrar, Umar-bin-Muqaddam says, “When I happened to see Hazrat Imam Jafar, I always felt that he is a descendant of Prophets (Ambia-e-Kiram).” It has been given in Tabqat-ul-Abrar that he had learnt the Hadiths etc. from his holy father and other pious persons. Imam Sufiyan Sauri, Ibn-e-Ayana, Sheba, Yahya-ul-Katan, Imam Maalik, his holy son Hazrat Imam Musa Kazim etc. had received the knowledge of Hadiths from him.
Allama Ibn-e-Zahar Mulki writes in Savaik Muharrak that, “Yahya-binSaeed, Ibn-e-Zarir, Imam Malik-bin-Anas, Imam Sufiyan Sauris, Sufiyan-bin-Aina, Imam Abu Hanifa and Abu Ayyub Sujan used to acquire knowledge of Hadiths from him.” Abu Qasim says, “There can never be a ray of doubt about the personality like that of Hazrat Imam Jafar Sadiq.” (Masalik-ul-Salikin, Jaʼame-ul-manaqib and Tashrif-ul-Bashar)
His Habits and Virtues
His personality had a unique height and the best of the virtues. It was so pure and transparent that none doubted about the goodness of his behaviour. He always used to be in the company of the people of wisdom and knowledge.
It is narrated that once, when he was sitting with his slaves, he told them,Let us promise each other that on the Day of Judgement, whoever is pardoned, will recommend for the forgiveness of the others.” The people around him said, “O son of Rasulallah, when your grandfather is 35 going to recommend for the forgiveness of all the community (Ummat), how do you need our recommendation?” He said, “With these of my deeds and life, I am ashamed to stand in front of my holy grandfather on the Day of Judgement.”
Once, Hazrat Daud Tai came in his service and said, “O’ son of Rasulallah, please give me some guidance as my heart has been stained.” He said, “O’ Abu Sulaiman, you yourself are so much involved in the worship of Allah and detached from the worldly affairs, how you need my recommendation? “Hazrat Daud Tai said, “O’ son of Rasulallah, you have the dominance all over the world, and it is your holy duty to provide guidance to all the community.” He said, “O’ Abu Sulaiman, I am afraid, on the Day of Judgement my holy grandfather Hazrat Rasul-e-Khuda will catch me at my collar-bone and fire me, Why did you retreat from performing your duties?’ Then, what shall I say? It is because this does not depend upon the blood-relations, but it depends upon the personal behaviour and way of life of the person concerned. It is related to the good and pious behaviour of the person in question.” On this, Hazrat Daud’s eyes burst with tears. He said, “If the child of the Holy Prophet and the holy mother-Majidah Hazrat Batul Khatun, the heir of Nabuvvat, the descendant of Hazrat Rasul-eKhuda, in whose veins runs the holy blood, is so much worried about his emancipation, where does a sinner, a man like me, stand?” (Masalik-ulSalikin, Ja’ame-ul-manaqib, Tashrif-ul-Bashar, Tazkirat-ul-Auliya and Kashaf-ulMahjub
