Name and Genealogy: His name is Husain which is very famous and has been given by Rasul-e-Khuda. Abu Abdullah is his clan-name, and Saiyed Shaba’ab Ahlul Jannat Riha’anat-ul-Nabi is his identity. His father is Karmain Hazrat Ali Murtuza AlaihisSalam the mother is Hazrat Saiyedunnisa Fatima Zahra AlahisSalam, and his maternal grandfather is Sultan-ul Ambiya, Rehmat-e-Konain, and Saiyedana Muhammad ﷺ
Birth: It has already been narrated that Hazrat Abbas’s holy wife Hazrat Umul Fazal witnessed a dream that a piece of Huzur’s holy body was cut and kept in her lap. She was very much worried. When Huzur heard about her dream, he said, “It is a very good dream. By Allah’s wish (Insha Allah), Fatima will give birth to a baby boy, which will be given to your lap.” (Miskat)
The implication of this dream was publicized on 5th of Sha’aban because on this day, Saiyedna Imam Husain AlahisSalam, who is the part of Huzur’s holy body, in the mystical world, was born. Hazrat Umul Fazal was the first person to take the holy child in his lap. When Huzur received the news of holy birth, he went there and whispered call for the prayer (Azan) in his right ear and Takbir in the left, in such a way that the very sound of it got dissolved in the blood-cells of the newborn child. It was because of this fact that he never submitted before anything other than the truth. With the flow of time, Huzur narrated the third Kalema, and during the ceremony of Akika’a on the seventh day of his birth, he gave him the name, Husain.
In the presence of Nabi Pakﷺ
Hazrat Imam Husain AlahisSalam and Hazrat Imam Hasan AlahisSalam were fortunate enough to get the highest ever possible love of Nabi Pakﷺ With great affection, he brought up both the princes and nourished them with the super culture of the prophet. With this procedure, he placed both of them to such a level that the whole youth in heaven was following them as models. By following these two holy personalities, the people of the path used to carve out their route for the ultimate destination. This is the result of the care provided by Huzur Nabi Pakﷺ in their bringing up.
Even the smallest hardship of Hazrat Imam Husain AlahisSalam and Hazrat Imam Hasan AlahisSalam used to make Huzur Nabi Pakﷺ upset and worried. He would never be contented without seeing them daily. He used to go to Hazrat Fatima’s AlahisSalam house to see them. Very often, he used to make them sit on his holy shoulders.
At the death of the Prophet Nabi Pakﷺ
The shock that received by Hazrat Imam Husain’s AlaihisSalam innocent heart at the time of final departure of Huzur Nabi Pakﷺ is beyond any description. Huzur Nabi Pakﷺ also was very much careful about him during his illness. The description has already been given while stating about Hazrat Imam Husain that while Huzur was breathing his last, Hazrat Khatun-e-Jannat Saiyedah Fatema Zahara brought Hazrat Hasnain-e-Karimain to him and said, “Ya Rasulallah! These both are your children. Please bestow upon them your heredity of (Nabuwat) Prophethood.” He said, “I have given Hasan the ability of leadership and to Husain, my bravery and generosity.” Hazrat Imam Husain AlahisSalam was dipped into deep grief due to the death of the
Nabi Pakﷺ . At that time, Hazrat Imam Hasan was eight (8) years old and, Hazrat Imam Husain was seven years old.
During Hazrat Siddiq Radiallahu anhoo tenure
The tenure of Hazrat Abubakar Siddiq’s caliphate was only two years. During this period, he had been very careful about Hasanain Karimain’s rights. He had been telling other people also to respect the rights of theseholy people. Following is a very famous episode described in Sahih Bukhari Vol-1. “Be careful and give respect to Huzur and his holy family members.”
During Hazrat Umar Faruq Radiallahu anhoo tenure
Like Hazrat Imam Hasan AlahisSalam, Hazrat Imam Husain’s AlahisSalam childhood also was almost at the end, and within some years he became a young man. During this period, both these pure souls acquired the knowledge and training of the Holy Quran and Hadith, from their holy father, Saiyedna Ali Murtuza AlaihisSalam. On one side, both of them was part and parcel of Huzur Nabi Pakﷺ holy body, and on the other side, all the possible means for their training and bringing up were provided in the best possible manner. Their training in Hadith, Islamic theology and study of Quran reached to such a height that the wisdom itself proclaimed, “These are the offsprings of Saiyedna Muhammad Rasulallah and, the true heirs of prophethood.”
During his own tenure, Hazrat Umar Radiallahu anhoo used to respect and honour Hazrat Imam Husain AlahisSalam. Regarding the good manners, higher values of life and etiquettes of Hazrat Husain AlahisSalam, Hafiz Ibn-e-Hazar writes,
Once, while Hazrat Umar was delivering the sermon from the dais,
Hazrat Husain said: Get down from my father’s (Rasulallah) dais and go to your father’s dais.
Hazrat Umar said: My father had no dais. Saying this, he made him sit near him on the dais. After the sermon was over, Hazrat Umar took Hazrat Imam Husain with him to his house. On the way to home, Hazrat Umar asked: Who taught you this?
Hazrat Husain said: None.
Hazrat Umar humbly requested: Please come to my house sometimes. On his request, Hazrat Husain, one day, went to Hazrat Umar’s house when he was discussing with Muaviya about something and Ibn-e-Umar was standing at the gate. He thought that some confidential topic was being discussed; hence, he stood for a little while with Ibn-e-Umar and then, went
back.Once Hazrat Umar reminded him: You did not come to my house
Hazrat Husain said: “I had come. You were discussing something personal with Muaviya, and your son was standing at the gate. I thought it might be something confidential and I should not disturb you. Hence, after standing for some time with your son, I returned.”
Hazrat Umar said: Why should you stand with Ibn-e-Umar? You, holy family members are instrumental for whatever divine gifts I am fortunate to get from the grace of Almighty.
Let us think over Hazrat Umar’s these words. What a great respect and appreciation he had for Hazrat Imam Husain and his holy family’s spiritual status! What a great and humble language he used to express his devotion, respect and pure love towards Hazrat Imam Husain and the members of the holy family. This was the result of the real training that Hazrat Umar had acquired. We should be very much grateful to him and respect him and his words in the best possible manner.
During Hazrat Uthman’s Radiallahu anhoo tenure
Hazrat Imam Husain AlaihisSalam had acquired complete youth during Hazrat Uthman’s tenure. He was the first to leave for the crusade during that age. Hence, he joined the crusade of Tabaristan during Hijri 30. When the rebels encircled Hazrat Uthman’s house, Hazrat Ali AlaihisSalam sent Hazrat Hasnain Karmain AlaihisSalam to protect Hazrat Uthman’s house. Both these princes stood at the gate and prevented the rebels from entering the house. Nobody could enter from the door where these two princes were standing. All the enemies were disappointed. But two crooks entered the house from the other side and killed Hazrat Uthman. Like Hazrat Hasnain Karmain AlaihisSalam, had there been other youngsters of Bani Umaiyya at the other spots, the assassination could have been prevented.
