Treacherous Act of Tulaqa Muavia
Immediately after the martyrdom of Hazrat Uthman Radiallahu anhoo, Tulaqa Muavia was cherishing the dream of ruling the whole world of Islam. But during the reign of Hazrat Ali Murtaza AlahisSalam, his dream could not be realized. Now he saw that Hazrat Ali AlaihisSalam against whose bravery none could stand, was no more. Hazrat Hasan AlahisSalam too was very powerful and capable but not equal to Hazrat Ali AlaihisSalam. He thought if Hazrat Imam Hasan AlahisSalam could be killed in the encounter, the whole world could be under his rule. Thinking thus, he encircled Saiyedna Hazrat Imam Hasan by the army. Alas!!! He never thought what a great sin it was to harass and attack the part of Huzur ﷺ very existence and greatly loved personality
Mu’avia, first of all sent Abdullah-bin-Aamir Kariz for the attack. This man reached to Anbar. Then Mu’avia also reached with his army. He surrounded Hazrat Kais-bin-A’amir, the ruler of Anbar, from Hazrat Imam AlaihisSalam side. Then on the battlefield, Saiyedna Hazrat Imam Hasan AlahisSalam was encompassed. At that time, Hazrat Imam Hasan AlahisSalam Caliphate had completed six months. In this way, the prescribed period of thirty years for Caliphate was going to be ended because already twentynine years and six months were completed till the Caliphate of the Era of Murtaza AlahisSalam, It is given in Hadith that Huzur best has said,
Translation: The tenure of Caliphate will continue for thirty years. After that, there will be a rule of tyrants. (That is, the people will not be protected from the tyranny of cruel and wicked rulers.) (Ashiat-ul-Amvat Vol-4 Ref: Ahmad and Tirmizi and Abu Daud)
For Hazrat Imam Hasan AlahisSalam, it was inevitable to leave the charge of Caliphate after six months, for after six months there would not be any Caliphate-e-Nabuvat, but there would be the cruel ruling of kings. Hence, he decided to leave the Caliphate. For this, it was necessary to have negotiations with Mu’avia because he had already started a movement in the direction of taking over the charge of governance. Hazrat Imam Hasan AlahisSalam thought negotiations were necessary so that Mu’avia could be expose.
Before leaving charge as a Caliph, it was obligatory for Hazrat Imam Hasan AlahisSalam to behave in that way, so that in future the welfare of the people at large could be looked for. A peace treaty with relevant conditions, was necessary to be signed. Leaving the charge of Caliph and entering such treaty was very much against the prestige of Hazrat Imam Hasan AlahisSalam. But the episode of a treaty of Hudebiyah was before his eyes. Huzur Nabi Pakﷺ had entered into the peace treaty with the non-believers of Mecca which was so insulting and degrading. All the Sa’ahabas in Hudebiyah was unhappy for this. In this treaty, Huzur ﷺ declared that the wisest behaviour was the self-control, whereas, misbehaviour with the people was a wicked attitude. The event of leaving the charge of Caliphate took place in Hijri 41. After that, he survived only for eight (8) years because, according to the Sahih tradition, he was martyred in Hijri 49.
After leaving the charge of Caliphate, Hazrat Imam Hasan AlahisSalam went to Medina Munawara along with Hazrat Imam Husain is and other gentries and, lived at the feet of his holy grandfather till the end
False Propaganda by Banu Umaiyya. One propaganda which was very mean, runs like this: It was propagated that both these gentries used to go from Medina Munawara to Syria in the court of Tulaqa Mua’via to be personally present there and collect their remuneration. O’Allah, forgive these people.
Just think how mean it was. The beloved of Holy Prophet ﷺ was being portrayed as the beggars requesting for the money. What a great insult this was of Hazrat Hasnain Karimain AlaihisSalam. The point to be noticed is that, through such a mean act, it was tried to insult the Prophet ﷺ himself. O, Allah! What a wicked people they were, and the climax of it was, they have no idea at all of its consequences.
Every one of the believers felt in their hearts that it was impossible that, the beloved of Huzur ﷺ Saiyedna Hazrat Imam Hasan AlahisSalam to and Hazrat Imam Husain AlaihisSalam would go for their remuneration to Mu’avia. These are the holy beings, loved by Allah and Huzur ﷺ and are the personifications of contentment and submission to Allah’s will. Shall such persons go to someone’s door to beg for money? Impossible, absolutely impossible!!!
After getting rid of governmental duties, Hazrat Imam Hasan’, for the most time, kept himself involved in and preached for the spiritual advancement. With the purpose of the greatest good for the greatest number, he took up these duties and started helping people at large for the attainment of spiritual destinations.
