In India, Islam came with preachers and Sufis and not with invaders.

RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat, while addressing a gathering in Pune recently, made a blatant mistake, saying that Islam came to India with the invaders and should be described as such. While the factual history is something else. Thus Mohan Bhagwat should leave narrow-mindedness and bigoted mentality and once again read the real Indian History based on facts. The History says that Islam came to our beloved homeland in the sixth century itself. When somewhere between 626 to 628 AD the Brahmin Raja of Kerala Cheraman Perumal embraced Islam at the invitation of Hazrat Malik bin Dinar ( May Allah be pleased with him ) a Companion of Holy Prophet Mohammed Mustafa (peace be upon him) & an Islamic Scholar and Preacher.
The Brahmin King of Kerala, Cheraman Perumal not only reverted to Islam but also went to Mecca & Madeenah to perform Hajj with Hazrat Malik bin Dinar. On their way back from Mecca Raja Perumal died in Oman and was buried in the City of Salalah, Oman. It was Raja Perumal who built India’s first mosque in Thrissur district of Kerala in 629 AD under the patronage of Malik bin Dinar. Known as the Cheraman Juma Mosque this mosque is visited by people of all faiths due to its beauty and historical significance. Hazrat Malik bin Dinar died in 748 AD in Kasaragod district of Kerala and was burried there only. After the death of these two gentlemen, the Indians who reverted to Islam continued to preach Islamic Teachings. Then began the arrival of merchant ships from Arab countries on the coasts of Kerala and Lakshadweep. Many of these Arab merchants married local women and settled here. Among them was Hazrat Sheikh Obaidullah (May Allah be pleased with him), a Companion of Holy Prophet pbuh. These Arab Merchants too started preaching Islamic teachings which was never objected to by the peace loving Hindus of Kerala and Lakshadweep.
Then with the arrival of Khwaja Ghareeb Nawaz viz. Hazrat Moinuddin Chishti Ajmeri (May Allah rest his soul in peace ) in 1192 AD came the great change as millions of non-Muslims embraced Islam before his death in 1236 AD. At the same time known sufis like Hazrat Nizamuddin Auliya, Hazrat Amir Khusru, Hazrat Bakhtiar Kaki, Baba Farid Shakar Ganj and countless other sufis and saints invited people to Islam and millions of non-Muslims converted to Islam.
Then in the year 1526 AD near about 350 years later, the Mughal emperor Muhammad Zahiruddin Babar came to Delhi to establish his rule in India and defeated the Muslim ruler Ibrahim Lodhi in the Battle of Panipat and captured the capital Delhi, which proves that even before Babar’s arrival Delhi was ruled by Muslim rulers whose rule stretched from Pakhtunistan ( now in Pakistan) to northern India and also proves that Islam came to India about 800 years before the arrival of Babar and there were millions of Muslim Indians even before his arrival, who had voluntarily converted to Islam without any coercion. Therefore, to say that Islam came to India because of foreign invaders is completely wrong and a heinous attempt to distort history.
Muslims ruled India for more than 600 years and left a deep impression on Indian culture and society. Their contributions to literature, art, culture and architecture are part of India’s glorious history. During the Muslim rule, the economy was so rich that India was known as the Golden Sparrow ( Sone ki Chidiya). And history has shown that these Muslim rulers never forced their subjects to convert to Islam or damaged their places of worship. On the contrary, non-Muslims held important positions in the Courts and in the armies of these kings.
That is why Mohan Bhagwat and his followers should study the true history of India. Yes, we agree with one of his point that the majority of our ancestors might have been Hindus before the arrival of Islam in India and that they embraced this true Religion inspired by the teachings of Islam. But one thing is for sure, Islam did not spread by the power of sword but on the basis of its righteous, pacifist, just and egalitarian teachings.

MUBAHELA
(MALEDICTORY CONFLICT)
The Prophet (S.A.W) then invited the delegates to accept Islam as their religion but they refused and
asked the Prophet (S.A.W) to pronounce his beliefs about Jesus. The Prophet (S.A.W) advised them to
go and rest and that he will answer their question the next day.
Next day, Allah revealed Sura 3, (Ale Imran) verses 58, 59, 60 of the Holy Quran to the Prophet (S.A.W)
which says, “Surely the likeness of Jesus is with Allah as the likeness of Adam. He created him from
dust then said to him be and he became alive. This is the truth from your Lord. So be not of the
disputers.” Next day when the Christian delegates came to he Prophet (S.A.W) to know his views about
Jesus the Prophet (S.A.W) recited these verses and said, “Jesus was only a Prophet like Adam. He was
created from dust and therefore cannot be son of Allah.” But they did not believe him. Allah sent
another revelation which says, “That if the opponents insist in the matter even after the knowledge you

have given them, tell them come let us bring our sons and your sons, our woman and your woman,
ourselves and yourselves and beseech Allah and invoke His curse upon the liars” (3-60).
The Prophet (S.A.W) informed the Christians about this revelation and challenged them to have a
Mubahela (maledictory conflict) with him, which the Christians agreed. Next day when they came
prepared for the maledictory conflict they saw the Prophet (S.A.W) coming out with Husain (A.S.), Ali
(A.S.)’s second son in his arms. Hasan (A.S.) the eldest son of Ali (A.S.) holding he finger of the
Prophet (S.A.W), Fatema (S.A.) Ali (A.S.)’s wife and daughter of the Prophet (S.A.W) walking behind the
Prophet (S.A.W) and Ali (A.S.) walking behind Fatema (S.A.). The Christians also heard the Prophet
(S.A.W) instructing these four members of his family that when he supplicates they should all say
`Amen’. The faces that the Christian saw for the first time and the instructions that they heard the
Prophet (S.A.W) giving them frightened the Christians so much that Abu Harris their leader said, “Verily

I see a divine light on the faces of these combatants, truth shines in their eyes. I am sure should they
pray for anything Allah will listen to their prayers and even move mountains if they asked for it. I
sincerely advise you to refrain from having this maledictory conflict (Mubahela) with them and invoke
the curse of Allah. Such maledictory conflicts with people like these is to invite sure death.” Heeding
his advice the Christians refused to have Mubahela and signed a treaty with the Prophet (S.A.W)
agreeing to supply two thousand dresses of forty Dirhams each every year to the Muslims [Madarejun
