Peace Agreement Between Imam Al-Hasan (عليه السلام) And Mu’awiya

Imam Hasan ( (عليه السلام)) faced extremely difficult conditions from the start. He observed that fear, anxiety and much distress were ever present in Kufa, Basrah, Medina and other towns. The anxiety, uncertainty and insecurity were caused by Mu’awiya’s ill dealing of sincere Muslims. Mu’awiya had spread secret agents all over to defame Ahlul Bayt.
Imam Hasan (عليه السلام) knew that his father Imam Ali  (عليه السلام)had stood like a lion in all difficulties and fought battles against Mu’awiya, but these confrontations had resulted in heavy casualties on both sides. A mass scale family devastation was visible everywhere. Considering all circumstances, Imam Hasan  (عليه السلام) discussed the matter with his brother Husain  (عليه السلام) and other relatives.
He revealed to them that in order to end the bloodshed and to provide a reasonable safety and security to the Ummah, he would make a peace agreement with Mu’awiya and abdicate until after Mu’awiya’s death. After a few days of careful consideration, Imam Hasan  (عليه السلام) accepted an agreement as per the terms dictated by the Imam and agreed to by Mu’awiya. 
Four noteworthy terms of this agreement were: 

•People of Syria, Iraq, Hijaz, Yemen and other places shall enjoy amnesty against persecution, 

•Friends and companions of Imam Ali (AS) and all their women and children shall be protected from all dangers, 

•Mu’awiya is to immediately stop the use of abusive language with reference to Ahlul Bayt (cursing Imam Ali) after Salat of Jumu’a)

•Mu’awiya shall not appoint anyone as his successor. 

Once the treaty was signed, Imam Hasan(عليه السلام) and brother Husain (عليه السلام) moved out of Kufa and settled in Medina. Over there both Imams lost no time in holding nightly meetings for Islamic discussions. The nightly meetings proved very successful and gained tremendous popularity. 

More people started to attend, to hear the Imams give of their fountain of knowledge on Islam and humanity. The reputation of these meetings began to fly to far away places. People from as far away as Egypt, Iraq, Yemen, and other distant areas traveled to Medina to learn about the Islamic values. As years passed, the knowledge thus given started to bear fruits. The number of Islamic scholars multiplied and increased considerably. 

In the meantime Mu’awiya, unabashedly elected to disregard the terms of his treaty with Imam Al-Hasan(عليه السلام)

a) He sent secret agents to terrorize, kidnap, or even kill innocent people specially those who were loyal to Ahlul Bayt (AS).

b) Instead of helping the needy with the public treasury, Mu’awiya’s governors and their surrogates used the public treasury for personal use, freely and excessively as they wished.

c) Freedom suddenly died, and dictatorship took its place.

d) Mu’awiya gathered a very large number of collaborators who unabashedly would do any thing for money.

110            “Hazrat Uqbah Bin Amir رَضِىَ اللهُ تَعَالىٰ عَنْهُ Se Marwi Hai Ki Huzoor Nabiyye Akram صَلَّى اللهُ تَعَالىٰ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ Ne Farmaya : Hasan Aur Husayn Arsh Ke Do-02 Sutoon Hain Lekin Woh Latke Hu’e Nahin Aur Aap صَلَّى اللهُ تَعَالىٰ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ Ne Irshad Farmaya : Jab Ahle Jannat, Jannat Me Muqim Ho Jaaeinge To Jannat Arz Karegi : Aye Parwardigaar ! Too Ne Mujhe Apne Sutoono’n Me Se Do-02 Sutoono’n Se Muzayyan Karne Ka Waa’dah Farmaya Tha. Allah Ta’ala Farmayega : Kya Mein Ne Tujhe Hasan Aur Husayn Kee Mawjoodagi Ke Zari’e Muzayyan Nahin Kar Diya? (Yahi To Mere Do-02 Sutoon Hain).”

Jannat Ne Dozakh Se Puchha Kis Wajah Se? Dozakh Ne Kaha : Is Liye Ki Mujh Me Bade-Bade Jaabir Hukmara’n Fir’aun Aur Namrood Hain. Is Par Jannat Khaamosh Ho Gayi, Allah Ta’ala Ne Jannat Kee Taraf Wah’iy Kee Aur Farmaya : Too Aajiz Wa Laa Jawaab Na Ho, Mein Tere Do-02 Sutoono’n Ko Hasan Aur Husayn Ke Zari’e Muzayyan Kar Dunga. Pas Jannat Khushi Aur Suroor Se Aisi Sharma Gayi Jaise Dulhan Sharmati Hai.”

Sahaba-E-Kiram رِضْوَانُ اللهِ تَعَالىٰ عَلَيْهِمْ اَجْمَعِيْنَ Ne Arz Kiya : Ya RasoolAllah صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْكَ وَسَلَّمَ! (Waha’b) Aap Ke Saath Koun Rahega? Aap صَلَّى اللهُ تَعَالىٰ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ Ne Farmaya : Ali, Fatimah Aur Hasan Wa Husayn (Waha’n Mere Saath Rahenge).”

Aap صَلَّى اللهُ تَعَالىٰ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ Hamaari Bakri Ke Paas Aa’e Jo Bohat Kam Doodh Waali Thi. Pas Aap صَلَّى اللهُ تَعَالىٰ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ Ne Us Ka Doodh Nikaala To Us Ne Bohat Ziyaadah Doodh Diya, Pas Hasan عَلَيْهِ السَّلَام Aap صَلَّى اللهُ تَعَالىٰ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ Ke Paas Aa’e To Aap صَلَّى اللهُ تَعَالىٰ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ Us Kee Taraf Mutawajjih Hu’e. Sayyidah Fatimah سَلاَمُ الله عَلَيْهَا Ne Farmaya : Ya RasoolAllah صَلَّى اللهُ تَعَالىٰ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ Lagta Hai Yeh Aap Ko In Dono’n Me Ziyadah Pyaara Hai. Aap صَلَّى اللهُ تَعَالىٰ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ Ne Farmaya Nahin Balki Is Ne Pehle Paani Maanga Tha Phir Famraya : Mein, Aap, Yeh Dono’n Aur Yeh Sone Waala (Hazrat Ali رَضِىَ اللهُ تَعَالىٰ عَنْهُ Kyun Ki Woh Abhi So Kar Uthe Hee They) Qiyamat Ke Din Aik Hee Jagah Par Honge.”

118            “Hazrat Aboo Fakhtah(Sa’iyd Bin ‘Ilaqah) رَضِىَ اللهُ تَعَالىٰ عَنْهُ Se Riwayat Hai Ki Huzoor Nabiyye Akram صَلَّى اللهُ تَعَالىٰ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ, Ali, Fatimah, Aur Hasan Wa Husayn رَضِىَ اللهُ تَعَالىٰ عَنْهُm Ajma’iyn Ghar Par They Ki Hasan Ne Paani Maanga. Huzoor Nabiyye Akram صَلَّى اللهُ تَعَالىٰ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ  Ne Aadhi Raat Ko Uth Kar Use Paani Pilaaya. (Isi Dauraan Jab Ki Huzoor Nabiyye Akram صَلَّى اللهُ تَعَالىٰ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ Hazrat Hasan عَلَيْهِ السَّلَام Ko Paani Pilaane Hee Waale They) Ki Hazrat Husayn عَلَيْهِ السَّلَام Ne Wohi Paani Talab Kiya, Jise Huzoor صَلَّى اللهُ تَعَالىٰ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ Ne Pehle Dene Se Inkaar Farmaya (Kyun Ki Hasan عَلَيْهِ السَّلَام In Se Qabl Paani Maang Chuke They Aur Huzoor صَلَّى اللهُ تَعَالىٰ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ Is Tarteeb Se Dena Chaahte They Yeh Bagharaz Ta’lim Wa Tarbiyat Tha). Arz Kiya Gaya : Ya RasoolAllah صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْكَ وَسَلَّمَ! Lagta Hai Ki Aap Ko Husayn Se Ziyadah Hasan Mahboob Hai? To Nabiyye Akram صَلَّى اللهُ تَعَالىٰ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ Ne Farmaya : Yeh Wajah Nahin Balki Hasan Ne Husayn Se Pehle Maanga Tha. Phir Aap صَلَّى اللهُ تَعَالىٰ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ Ne Farmaya : Aye Fatimah! Mein, Tum, Yeh Dono’n (Hasan Wa Husayn) Aur Yeh Sone Waala (Ya’ni Ali) Qiyamat Ke Din Aik Hee Jagah Par Honge.”
