According to Anas b. Malik :
“The Prophet came out when the sun had declined,
and offered the midday ritual prayer. Then, having pronounced
the salutation of peace, he ascended on the pulpit. He spoke about
the final hour, and mentioned that there are major events and
calamities to occur before that; then he said: ‘If someone wishes to
ask about something, let him ask about it! By Allah, as long as I
am standing here, I will answer whatever you ask.’ On this the
people started weeping profusely, and, out of his Majesty, Allah’s
Messenger kept saying: ‘Ask me whatever you want?’ A man
therefore approached him and said; ‘where is my abode, O
Messenger of Allah ? he said: ‘The fire of hell!’ Then, Abdullah
b. Hudhafa said: ‘Who is my father, O Messenger of Allah ?’
He said: ‘Your father is Hudafa!’ Then, he said again and again:
‘Ask me, ask me!’ Umar therefore knelt down on his knee and
said: ‘We are content with Allah 9 as the Lord, with Islam as a
religion and with Mohammed as Messenger (and we are to ask
anything).’ Allah’s Messenger then became silent when Umar
said that. Then Allah’s Messenger said: ‘By the one in
whose hand is my soul! The garden of paradise and the fire of hell
have been displayed to me just now in front of this wall, while I
was performing the ritual prayer, so I have not viewed good and
evil (so vividly) as today.’”

According to Abu Hurayra :
“The Messenger of Allah addressed us and said: ‘0
people, Hajj has been made obligatory upon you, so perform
Hajj.’ A man said: ‘Is it every year, 0 Messenger of Allah ?’ He
remained silent, until the man said it three times. Then the
Messenger of Allah said: ‘If I would have said yes, it would
become obligatory, and you would not be able to do it.’ Then he
said: ‘Leave me as I have left you; for those who came before you
faced consequences because of their questions and differences
with their Prophets. If I command you to do something, then do
as much of it as you can, and if I forbid you to do something, then
refrain from it.’”

According to Abu Musa al-Asha’ri :
“Allah’s Messenger was asked about some things that
he disliked. When he was asked too much he became angry and
said: ‘Ask me?’ A man stood and said: ‘Who is my father?’ He
said: ‘Your father is Uudhafah.’ Another man stood up and said:
‘Who is my father, 0 Messenger of Allah ?’ He said: ‘Your
father is Salim, the freed slave of Shaybah.’ When ‘Umar saw
the anger on the face of the Messenger of Allah , he said: ‘0
Messenger of Allah , we repent to Allah 9.’”
