The battle of Badr took place in Hijri 2. On the fourth month after this, i.e. in the month of Zilhajj, he was wedded to Khatun-e-Jannat Fatema SalamUllahAlaiha. At that time, Hazrat Saiyyeda AlahisSalam was only 18 years old. Before that, she received many matrimonial proposals. Hazrat Abu Bakr and after that, Hazrat Umar too, presented their matrimonial proposals. But Huzur Nabi Pak ﷺ did not respond. The proposal from Hazrat Ali AlaihisSalam, which was immediately accepted by Huzur Nabi Pak ﷺ. At that time, Hazrat Ali AlaihisSalam was only 2
This contented uncrowned king did not have any financial background to meet the marriage expenses. Even for Meher, he did not have a single farthing. For the Meher and other matrimonial expenses, he sold the armour which he received as a share from the battle of Badr to Hazrat Usman for 48 Dirham which is almost equal to Rs. 125/-.

Nikah and Meher: The Nikah ceremony was performed by Saiyyedul Ambiyat himself and an amount of Rs. 125/- was fixed as Meher. After the Nikah, Huzur showered water over them for the divine blessings and recited the Dua for Hazrat Fatima AlahisSalam .
(Tafsir-e-Mazhari, quoted by Sahih Ibn-e-Habban) Translation: O’Allah! I hand him and his children over to you to be protected from the devil.
He blessed Hazrat Ali with the same dua. Here, instead of Aizuha, there is Aizuhu, i.e. it is pronoun of singular,
On this occasion, the Prophet Nabi Pakﷺ asked Khatun-e-Jannat SalamUllahAlaiha (as it has been stated in Musnad-e- Ahmed and Mauzam-e-Tabrani)
(Qanzul-Ummal, Vol 6, P-153)
I have given you in marriage to such a man who is the first Muslim, he is best among the persons of knowledge, and he is the best among the people of tolerance and patience.
The king of both the world gave dowry to the princess of heaven. The whole world of her dowry consisted of a cot made of date fibre, a bed, a leather water bag, two earthen pots and two grinding stones. Though in the service of Nabi Pakﷺ treasures from all the directions were pouring in, only this was the dowry he gave to his loving daughter because all this wealth was being distributed among the Ansars and Muhajirins. The Ahl-e-bait was being gifted with the wealth of Qana’at (gratification) and Tasbih (glorification of Allah). This is the life and character of Saiyyed-ul Ambiyas. In addition to this, he gave to his loving daughter a loving partner like Hazrat Ali AlaihisSalam, whose life was full of worship and contentment. The whole life of Hazrat Sayyidah Fatimah SalamUllahAlaiha was full of the recitation and worship of Almighty, patience, compassion and a glaring chapter of divine faith and prayers. The life of Hazrat Ali AlaihisSalam was also of the same type, of course, in addition to having all virtuous attributes of life which were totalized in him.

The Wedding Fiest (Valima): The life of Hazrat Alift was very similar to that of Huzurst, which was full of worship and contentment. This Sheikh-e-Aazam of the Dervish and Faqir (religious mendicant) had no relation with the worldly wealth. But as Valima is a tradition, it was arranged. Few gentries were served with barley bread, curry of meat, dates and cheese. In this way, the culture of Valima was fulfilled.

Hazrat Saiyeda’s AlahisSalam sendingoff (Rukhsati)
Till now, Hazrat Ali AlaihisSalam had been staying with Huzur ﷺ. After the marriage, a separate house was needed. Hazrat Harisa bin Noman Ansari Radiallahu anhoo had many homes. He gifted one house. After eleven months of his marriage, Hazrat Ali AlaihisSalam brought the princess of heaven with him at his house. This, the uncrowned king who was fully contented had no wealth except a sheep-skin and an old bed-sheet of Yemen which he presented to Hazrat Fatima AlahisSalam
