Ghazwa-e-Tabuk

Ek buland aur mazboot qila, jo Hijr se Damascus jaane wale raaste par, Shaam ke sarhadi ilaqe mein ek chashme ke paas tameer kiya gaya tha, Tabuk ke naam se mashhoor tha.

Us zamane mein Shaam, Mashriqi Roomi Saltanat ki colonies mein se ek tha. Iska dar-ul-hukumat Constantinople tha. Iske sarhadi ilaqon ke log Isai mazhab ke pairokar the aur mukhtalif ilaqon ke sardaar Shaam ke hukmaran ke tabay the, jo khud Roomi Badshah ke hukm par amal karta tha.

Arab ke Jazeeray mein Islam ki tezi se taraqqi aur phailao, Hijaz mein Musalmanon ki numaya fatahat ko dekh kar Hijaz se bahar ke ilaqon mein bhi log mutawajjeh ho rahe the. Is se Islam ke dushman khaufzada ho rahe the aur is peshraft ko rokne ke tareeqe soch rahe the.

Roomi lashkar mein 4,000 sawar aur paidal sipahi shamil the. Unhein us zamane ke jadeed tareen hathiyaron aur zireh se lais kiya gaya tha. Unhon ne Shaam ke sarhadi ilaqe mein apna camp qayam kiya. Sarhadi ilaqon mein rehne wale qabeelon, jaise Lakham, Amilah, Ghassan aur Jazam ne bhi unka saath diya. Lashkar ka agla hissa Balqa tak pahunch gaya.

(Hawala: Tabaqat, Jild 2, Safha 165)

Hijaz aur Shaam ke darmiyan tijarat karne wale karwanon ke zariye Rasool Allah ﷺ ko Roomi sipahiyon ke sarhadi ilaqe mein jama hone ki khabar mili. Aap ﷺ ke paas iske siwa koi raasta nahi tha ke ek bade lashkar ke saath is khatre ka jawab diya jaye aur Islam ko dushman ke achanak hamlon se mehfooz rakha jaye. Yeh woh deen tha jo Islam ke azeezon ki jaanon aur Rasool Allah ﷺ ki apni qurbaniyon ke natije mein phaila tha aur ab apni jaden mazboot kar chuka tha.

Yeh pareshan-kun khabar aise waqt mein mili jab Madinah ke log abhi apni fasal bhi theek tarah jama nahi kar paye the aur khajooren pakne ke qareeb thin. Madinah aur uske aas-paas ke ilaqe goya qahat jaisi surat-e-haal se guzar rahe the. Lekin Allah ke naik bandon ke nazdeek roohani zindagi, buland maqsad ki hifazat aur Allah ki raah mein jihad har cheez se zyada ahmiyat rakhte hain.

2. Mujahideen Ko Bulana Aur Jang Ke Akhrajaat Ka Intizam

Rasool Allah ﷺ dushman ki fauji salahiyat aur tajurbe se kuch had tak waqif the. Aap ﷺ ko yaqeen tha ke is jang mein kamyabi ke liye Allah par imaan aur Allah ki raah mein ladne ke jazbe ke saath ek bada lashkar bhi zaroori hai.

Jang ke akhrajaat zakat jama karke poore kiye gaye. In 30,000 afraad mein se 10,000 sawar the aur baqi 20,000 paidal sipahi the. Baad mein Rasool Allah ﷺ ne hukm diya ke har qabila apne liye ek alag parcham muntakhib kare.

(Hawala: Tabaqat, Jild 2, Safha 166)

3. Jang Mein Shirkat Se Inkar Karne Wale Afraad

Ghazwa-e-Tabuk ek aisa mauqa tha jahan jaan-nisaar momineen, munafiqeen aur dikhawa karne walon ke darmiyan farq wazeh ho gaya.

Jang ke liye aam bulawa aise waqt diya gaya jab mausam bahut garm tha aur Madinah ke tajir aur kisaan khajooron ki fasal jama karne ki tayyari mein masroof the.

Kuch logon ne mukhtalif bahane bana kar jang mein shirkat se inkar kar diya. Is se unke asal chehre saamne aa gaye.

Woh pehle hi aazmaish mein pad chuke hain aur yaqeenan Jahannam kafiron ko gheray hue hai.”

(Surah At-Tawbah, 9:49)

2. Munafiqeen ka kirdar

Munafiqeen woh afraad the jinhon ne zahiri taur par Islam qabool kar liya tha, lekin haqeeqat mein unhein Islam se koi dilchaspi nahi thi.

Woh mukhtalif bahane bana kar doosre logon ko bhi is jihad mein shirkat karne se rok rahe the. Kabhi woh mausam ki sakht garmi ka bahana banate.

Allah Ta’ala ne unke is aitraaz ka jawab dete hue farmaya:

“Aap keh dijiye ke Jahannam ki aag is se kahin zyada sakht garm hai, kaash woh samajh sakte.”

(Surah At-Tawbah, 9:81)

Kuch log Musalmanon ko is jang mein shirkat karne se dara rahe the aur kehte the:

“Arab, Roomiyon ka muqabla karne ki salahiyat nahi rakhte. Natijatan, is jang mein shirkat karne wale tamam logon ko rassi se baandh diya jayega aur ghulamon ki khuli mandiyon mein bech diya jayega.”

(Hawala: Mughazi-e-Waqidi, Safha 1003)

4. Madinah Mein Jasusi Markaz Ka Pata Chalna

Islam ke azeem rehnuma Rasool Allah ﷺ khufiya maloomat aur intelligence reports ko bahut ahmiyat dete the. Aap ﷺ ki kai fatahat ka sabab dushmanon ke halaat aur shar-pasand afraad ki sazishon ke bare mein pehle se maloomat hasil karna tha.

Is tarah Aap ﷺ dushmanon ki kai sazishon aur Islam mukhalif mansubon ko ibtida hi mein nakaam bana dete the.

Rasool Allah ﷺ ko khabar mili ke Suwaylim naam ke ek Yahudi ka ghar Islam mukhalif sargarmiyon ka markaz ban gaya hai. Munafiqeen wahan jama hote aur Musalmanon ko is muqaddas jihad mein shirkat se rokne ke mansube banate the.

Rasool Allah ﷺ ne faisla kiya ke sazish karne walon ko aisa sabaq sikhaya jaye ke woh mustaqbil mein is tarah ki shararat ka khayal bhi na karein.

Aap ﷺ ne Talha bin Ubaydullah ko hukm diya ke woh kuch bahadur sahaba ke saath jaakar Suwaylim ke ghar ko aag laga dein, jabke wahan sazish karne walon ki meeting jaari thi.

Talha ne Rasool Allah ﷺ ke hukm ke mutabiq us waqt ghar ko aag laga di jab munafiqeen Islam ke khilaf mansube banane mein masroof the.

Aag ke sholay dekh kar sab log bhaag nikle aur unmein se ek shakhs ka paon zakhmi ho gaya.

Yeh karwai itni moassar sabit hui ke munafiqeen ke liye mustaqbil mein ek sabaq ban gayi.

(Hawala: Seerat Ibn Hisham, Jild 2, Safha 517)

5. Rone Wale Sahaba Ka Waqia

Rasool Allah ﷺ ke kuch Sahaba is muqaddas jihad mein shirkat karne ke liye bahut bechain the.

Yeh sunkar woh Sahaba bahut ghamgeen hue aur unki aankhon se aansu jaari ho gaye.

Sahaba mein kuch aise log bhi the jo jihad mein shirkat ke liye har qurbani dene ko tayyar the aur jang mein shirkat na kar paane par unhein sakht ranj tha.

Tareekh ki istilah mein in logon ko Bakka’oon yani rone wale kaha jata hai.

Qur’an-e-Kareem mein Allah Ta’ala ne unke imaan aur jazbe ka zikr karte hue farmaya:

“Un logon par bhi koi harj nahi jo aapke paas aayein taake aap unhein sawari dein aur aapne kaha ke mere paas koi sawari nahi jis par main tumhein sawar kar sakoon. Phir woh is haal mein wapas gaye ke unki aankhon se aansu beh rahe the, is gham mein ke unke paas kharch karne ke liye kuch nahi tha.”

(Surah At-Tawbah, 9:92)

Hawala: Seerat Ibn Hisham, Jild 2, Safha 518; Mughazi-e-Waqidi, Jild 3, Safha 992–993.

6. Ka’b, Hilal Aur Murarah Ka Waqia

Ek aur giroh mein Ka’b, Hilal aur Murarah jaise afraad shamil the. Woh Islam par poora imaan rakhte the aur jihad mein shirkat karne ke khwahishmand bhi the.

Lekin unki fasal abhi tak tayyar nahi hui thi. Unhon ne faisla kiya ke pehle apni fasal jama kar lenge aur phir Islami lashkar mein shamil ho jayenge.

Qur’an-e-Kareem (Surah At-Tawbah, 9:118) mein jin teen afraad ka zikr hai, yeh wahi log the.

Unke saath kiye gaye is muamle se doosre logon ko bhi sabaq mila.

7. Hazrat Ali (A.S.) Ka Ghazwa-e-Tabuk Mein Shirkat Na Karna

Ameer-ul-Momineen Hazrat Ali (A.S.) ki ek numaya fazilat yeh hai ke Aap Rasool Allah ﷺ ke saath tamam Islami jangon mein shamil rahe aur Aap ﷺ ke parcham-bardar bhi the, siwaye Ghazwa-e-Tabuk ke.

Is jang mein Hazrat Ali (A.S.) Madinah mein hi rahe aur Rasool Allah ﷺ ke apne hukm par jihad mein shirkat nahi ki.

Rasool Allah ﷺ ne yeh faisla is liye kiya tha kyunke Aap ﷺ ko maloom tha ke munafiqeen aur Quraysh ke kuch afraad Aap ﷺ ki ghair-maujoodgi mein naye Islami hukumat ke khilaf fitna aur intishar paida karne ka mauqa talash kar rahe hain.

Tabuk woh sab se door maqam tha jahan tak Rasool Allah ﷺ apni jangon ke silsile mein tashreef le gaye the.

Aap ﷺ ko poora andaza tha ke Aap ﷺ ki ghair-maujoodgi mein Islam mukhalif giroh Madinah mein hungama khada kar sakte hain aur apne hamdardon ko mukhtalif maqamat se jama karke apne mansube ko kamyab banane ki koshish kar sakte hain.

Isi liye, halanke Aap ﷺ ne Muhammad bin Maslamah ko apni ghair-maujoodgi mein Madinah ka naib muqarrar kiya tha, lekin Hazrat Ali (A.S.) ko bhi Madinah mein rehne ka hukm diya.

Rasool Allah ﷺ ne Hazrat Ali (A.S.) se farmaya:

“Tum Ahl-e-Bayt, mere rishtedaron aur Muhajireen ke giroh ke nigraan ho. Is kaam ke liye mere aur tumhare siwa koi doosra munasib nahi hai.”

Hazrat Ali (A.S.) ka Madinah mein rukna sazish karne walon ke liye bahut pareshani ka sabab bana, kyunke woh jaante the ke Hazrat Ali (A.S.) ki maujoodgi mein unke mansube kamyab nahi ho sakte.

Is afwah ki tardeed karne ke liye Hazrat Ali (A.S.) Rasool Allah ﷺ ki khidmat mein hazir hue aur poora maamla Aap ﷺ ke saamne pesh kiya.

Us waqt Rasool Allah ﷺ ne apna tareekhi jumla irshad farmaya, jo is kitab ke musannif ke nazdeek Hazrat Ali (A.S.) ki Imamat aur Rasool Allah ﷺ ke baad foran Khilafat ke mustahiq hone ki wazeh daleel hai.

Aap ﷺ ne farmaya:

“Ae mere bhai! Madinah wapas chale jao, kyunke Madinah ki izzat aur maqam ki hifazat karne ke liye mere aur tumhare siwa koi zyada munasib nahi hai. Tum Ahl-e-Bayt aur mere rishtedaron mein mere naib ho.

Kya tum is baat se khush nahi ho ke tumhara mere saath wahi rishta hai jo Haroon ka Musa ke saath tha, siwaye iske ke mere baad koi Nabi nahi aayega?

Jis tarah Hazrat Haroon, Hazrat Musa ke foran jaanasheen the, usi tarah tum mere jaanasheen aur mere baad Khalifa ho.”

Hawala: Seerat Ibn Hisham, Jild 2, Safha 520; Bihar-ul-Anwar, Jild 21, Safha 207.

8. Lashkar-e-Islam ka Tabuk ki Taraf Rawana Hona

Rasool-e-Akram ﷺ ka mamool tha ke jab Aap ﷺ kisi aisi qaum ko saza dene ke liye safar farmate jo Islam ki taraqqi mein rukawat banti, Musalmanon par hamla karne ka irada rakhti ya unke khilaf buri sazishen karti, to Aap ﷺ apne maqsad aur mansube ko afsaron aur sipahiyon par zahir nahi farmate the. Aap ﷺ lashkar ko aam raaston ke bajaye kam istemal hone wale raaston se le jate the, taake dushman ko Aap ﷺ ke iradon ka pata na chale aur Aap ﷺ achanak uske saamne pahunch jayein.[7]

Lekin is martaba Syria ki sarhad par jama Roman lashkar ko shikast dene ke liye Aap ﷺ ne aam lashkar-kashi ka elan karte hi apna maqsad sab par wazeh kar diya. Iska maqsad yeh tha ke Mujahideen is safar ki ahmiyat aur raaste ki mushkilat se waqif ho jayein aur apne saath zaroori rashan aur safar ka samaan le kar chalein.

Iske alawa lashkar-e-Islam ko mazboot banane ke liye Rasool-e-Akram ﷺ ko Banu Tamim, Ghatafan aur Tayy qabeelon se madad talab karna zaroori tha, kyun ke ye qabeelay Madinah se door rehte the. Is silsile mein Aap ﷺ ne un qabeelon ke sardaron ko khat likhe. Isi tarah Makkah ke nau-umar Governor, Atab bin Usayd, ko bhi khat likh kar un qabeelon aur Makkah ke logon ko is muqaddas jihad mein shirkat ki dawat di.[8]

Itni wasi paimane par dawat dena khufiya taur par mumkin nahi tha. Is liye zaroori tha ke Aap ﷺ qabeelon ke sardaron ko is muhim ki tafseel aur ahmiyat se aagah karein, taake woh apne Mujahideen ke liye kafi rashan aur sawariyon ka intezam kar sakein.

9. Rasool-e-Akram ﷺ ke Samne Lashkar ki Parade

Lashkar-e-Islam ki rawangi ka din aa pahuncha. Us din Rasool-e-Akram ﷺ ne Madinah ke lashkari markaz mein apne sipahiyon ka muaina farmaya.

Iman aur apne maqsad ke liye qurbani dene wale un wafadar afrad ka parade ka manzar nihayat shandar tha. Un logon ne duniya ki aish-o-aram aur faidon ke muqable mein apne maqsad ke liye mushkilat aur maut ka saamna karna pasand kiya tha. Unke josh aur iman ne wahan maujood logon ko mutasir kiya.

Rawangi ke waqt Rasool-e-Akram ﷺ ne sipahiyon ko khitab farmaya, unka hausla buland kiya aur aam lashkar-kashi ka maqsad samjhaya. Iske baad lashkar muqarrar karda raaste ki taraf rawana ho gaya.

10. Malik Bin Qays ka Waqia

Lashkar-e-Islam ke rawana hone ke baad Malik bin Qays apne safar se Madinah wapas aaye. Us din sakht garmi thi. Unhon ne dekha ke Madinah mein sannata chhaya hua hai aur unhein maloom hua ke Musalmanon ka lashkar rawana ho chuka hai.

Isi dauran woh apne bagh mein pahunche. Wahan unhon ne dekha ke unki khoobsurat biwi ne unke liye saya ka intezam kar rakha hai. Unhon ne apni biwi ke dilkash chehre par nazar dali aur us khane aur pani ko bhi dekha jo unke liye tayyar kiya gaya tha.

Lekin phir unke zehan mein Rasool-e-Akram ﷺ aur Aap ﷺ ke ashaab ki mushkilat ka khayal aaya, jo Allah ki raah mein jihad ke liye is sakht garmi mein safar kar rahe the aur maut ka saamna karne ja rahe the.

Unhon ne faisla kiya ke woh na apni biwi ke saath is saaye mein aaram karenge aur na hi tayyar khana aur pani istemal karenge. Balki foran apni sawari par baith kar jald se jald lashkar-e-Islam mein shamil honge.

Unhon ne apni biwi se kaha:

“Yeh bilkul munasib nahi ke main apni biwi ke saath is saaye mein aaram karun, lazeez khana khaun aur thanda aur saaf pani piyun, jabke mere Aaqa jihad ke liye is jhulas dene wali garmi mein safar kar rahe hain. Yeh insaf aur dosti ke taqazon ke khilaf hai. Iman aur ikhlas mujhe iski ijazat nahi dete.”

Yeh keh kar unhon ne safar ke liye kuch zaroori samaan uthaya aur rawana ho gaye. Raaste mein unki mulaqat Umar bin Wahab se hui, jo zahir hai ke lashkar-e-Islam se peeche reh gaye the. Dono Tabuk mein Rasool-e-Akram ﷺ ke paas pahunche.[9]

Is shakhs ko ibtida mein Rasool-e-Akram ﷺ ki rafaqat ka mauqa nahi mila tha, lekin aakhirkar unhon ne apni qabil-e-tareef qurbani ke zariye is nek maqsad mein apna hissa ada kiya.

Iske baraks kuch log aise bhi hote hain jin ke darwaze par khush-qismati khud dastak deti hai, lekin woh apni na-ahli aur na-qabiliyat ki wajah se is mauqe se faida nahi uthate aur natije mein khud ko halakat aur nuqsan mein daal dete hain.

Misal ke taur par, munafiqon ke sardaar Abdullah bin Ubayy ne Rasool-e-Akram ﷺ ke kheme ke paas apna khema lagaya tha, taake woh Aap ﷺ ke saath is jihad mein shirkat kar sake. Lekin kyun ke woh bad-niyyat aur Islam ka sakht dushman tha, is liye jab lashkar rawana hone ke qareeb hua to usne apna irada badal diya aur apne himayatiyon ke saath Madinah wapas chala gaya, taake Rasool-e-Akram ﷺ ki ghair-maujoodgi mein wahan fasad paida kar sakein.

Rasool-e-Akram ﷺ ne bhi uski taraf koi tawajjuh nahi di, kyun ke Aap ﷺ uske nifaq se waqif the aur uski jihad mein shirkat ko kisi faide ka sabab nahi samajhte the.

Is jagah ka maut jaisa sannata aur khamoshi mein doobe hue veeran ghar doosri qaumon ke liye ibrat ka sabaq hain.”

Iske baad Rasool-e-Akram ﷺ ne sipahiyon ko hukm diya ke woh us jagah ka pani na piyen, na us pani se khana ya roti tayyar karein aur na hi usse wuzu karein. Agar kisi ne us pani se khana paka liya ho ya aata goondh liya ho to use janwaron ko khila diya jaye.

Phir lashkar-e-Islam Rasool-e-Akram ﷺ ki rehnumai mein apna safar jari rakhte hue raat ka kuch hissa guzarne ke baad ek aise kuen ke paas pahuncha jahan Hazrat Saleh (A.S.) ki oontni ne pani piya tha. Wahan pahunch kar Rasool-e-Akram ﷺ ne hukm diya ke tamam log yahin qiyam karein aur aaram karein.

12. Ehtiyati Hidayaat

Rasool-e-Akram ﷺ us ilaqe ki zehreeli aur tez hawaon aur sakht aandhiyon se poori tarah waqif the. Kabhi kabhi ye aandhiyan logon aur oonton ko apni lapet mein le leti thin aur unhein rait aur gard ke teelon ke neeche daba deti thin.

Is surat-e-haal mein kuch sipahiyon ne apne qeemti oont zabah kar diye, taake unke pet mein maujood pani istemal kiya ja sake. Jabke doosre sipahi Allah ki marzi par razi the aur Allah ki rehmat ke muntazir the.

Allah Ta’ala ne, jisne apne Rasool ﷺ se fatah ka wada kiya tha, ek baar phir Aap ﷺ aur Aap ﷺ ke wafadar ashaab ki madad farmayi. Musaladhar barish hui aur sab ne apni pyaas bujhai. Iske alawa lashkar ke liye samaan jama karne walon aur tamam sipahiyon ne apni zaroorat ke mutabiq pani jama kar liya.

13. Rasool-e-Akram ﷺ ki Ghaibi Khabar

Is haqeeqat se inkar nahi kiya ja sakta ke jaisa ke Qur’an-e-Kareem mein wazeh taur par bayan hua hai,[11] Rasool-e-Akram ﷺ ghaib se mutalliq aisi baatein bata sakte the jin ka doosre logon ko ilm nahi hota tha.

Misal ke taur par, kabhi Aap ﷺ ka kuch maal gum ho jata ya ghar ki chaabi kahin kho jati aur Aap ﷺ use dhoondh nahi pate. Lekin kabhi Aap ﷺ ghaib se mutalliq nihayat posheeda aur pechida mamlaat ki khabar dete, jisse log hairan reh jate.

Is ilm ke izhar aur uske zahir na hone ki wajah bhi yahi thi ke jab Allah Ta’ala chahta, to Aap ﷺ ghaib se mutalliq mamlaat ki khabar de dete.

Safar ke dauran Rasool-e-Akram ﷺ ki oontni gum ho gayi. Aap ﷺ ke kuch ashaab use talash karne ke liye gaye. Isi dauran ek munafiq khada hua aur kehne laga:

“Yeh kehte hain ke yeh Allah ke Nabi hain aur aasmanon ki khabrein dete hain, lekin hairat ki baat hai ke inhein apni oontni ka pata nahi.”

Rasool-e-Akram ﷺ ko is baat ka ilm ho gaya aur Aap ﷺ ne ek pur-asar jawab ke zariye haqeeqat wazeh kar di. Aap ﷺ ne farmaya:

“Main sirf wahi jaanta hoon jo Allah mujhe batata hai. Woh is sehra ki falan wadi mein maujood hai. Uski lagam ek darakht mein ulajh gayi hai jiski wajah se woh aage nahi badh pa rahi. Jao aur use le aao.”

Kuch log foran us jagah gaye aur oontni ko bilkul usi haalat mein paya jaisa Rasool-e-Akram ﷺ ne bayan farmaya tha.[12]

14. Ek Aur Ghaibi Khabar

Muslim sipahi Rasool-e-Akram ﷺ ke hukm ke mutabiq ek jagah qiyam kar chuke the aur aaram kar rahe the.

Ek sahabi ne Rasool-e-Akram ﷺ ko is baat ki ittila di. Aap ﷺ ne farmaya:

“Yeh Abu Dharr hain. Allah Abu Dharr ki maghfirat farmaye! Yeh tanha chalte hain, tanha wafat payenge aur tanha hi dobara uthaye jayenge.”[13]

Baad ke waqiat ne sabit kar diya ke Rasool-e-Akram ﷺ ki peshgoi bilkul durust thi, kyun ke Hazrat Abu Dharr ne Rabzah ke sehra mein abadion se door nihayat afsosnaak haalat mein wafat payi. Us waqt unki beti ke siwa koi unke paas maujood nahi tha.[14]

15. Tabuk ke Ilaqai Hukmaranon ke Saath Muahide

Syria aur Hijaz ke sarhadi ilaqon mein rehne wale hukmaran apni qaumon par asar-o-rasookh rakhte the aur woh sab Isai the. Yeh imkaan tha ke kisi din Roman lashkar in maqami taqaton ko apne saath mila kar unki madad se Hijaz par hamla kar de. Isliye Rasool-e-Akram ﷺ ke liye zaroori tha ke woh unke saath jang na karne ke muahide karein, taake Musalmanon ki salamati ko yaqini banaya ja sake.

Rasool-e-Akram ﷺ ne Tabuk ke qareebi ilaqon ke hukmaranon se khud rabta kiya aur kuch sharaait ke saath unke saath aman ke muahide kiye. Tabuk se door ke ilaqon ke hukmaranon ke paas wafd bheje, taake Musalmanon ki salamati ko mazeed yaqini banaya ja sake.

Usne Rasool-e-Akram ﷺ ko ek safed khachar tohfe mein diya aur Aap ﷺ ke saamne apni ita’at ka izhar kiya. Rasool-e-Akram ﷺ ne uske is rawaiye ko pasand farmaya aur use bhi ek tohfa diya.

Yuhanna ne Isai hi rehne ka faisla kiya aur har saal teen hazar dinar jizya dene par razamandi zahir ki. Iske alawa usne wada kiya ke Aylah ke ilaqe se guzarne wale har Musalman ki mezbani aur madad karega.

Dono fareeqon ke darmiyan is mazmoon ka muahida teh hua:

Unke liye tamam samundari aur zameeni raaste khule honge aur woh un par aana jaana kar sakenge.”[16]

Yeh muahida zahir karta hai ke agar koi qaum Musalmanon ke saath pur-aman taur par ta’awun karti thi to Musalman use tamam sahuliyat faraham karte aur uski salamati ki zimmedari bhi qabool karte the.

Rasool-e-Akram ﷺ ne Azri’at aur Jarba’ jaise sarhadi ilaqon ke logon ke saath bhi muahide kiye. In ilaqon ko fauji aitibar se khaas ahmiyat hasil thi. Is tarah Aap ﷺ ne Islami ilaqon ki shumali sarhad ko mehfooz banaya.

16. Khalid Bin Walid ko Dawmatul Jandal Rawana Kiya Gaya

Dawmatul Jandal ek abad aur khushhaal ilaqa tha. Wahan sabz darakht, behta hua pani aur ek mazboot qila maujood tha.

Rasool-e-Akram ﷺ ko khatra tha ke agar Roman lashkar dobara hamla kare to Dawmatul Jandal ka Isai hukmaran uski madad kar sakta hai aur is tarah Arab ki salamati ko khatra paida ho sakta hai.

Isliye Aap ﷺ ne faisla kiya ke apne paas maujood fauji taqat se bharpoor faida uthaya jaye aur Khalid bin Walid ki qiyadat mein ek dasta is ilaqe ki taraf rawana kiya jaye.

Khalid bin Walid sawar sipahiyon ke saath Dawmatul Jandal ke qareeb pahunche aur qile ke bahar ghaat laga kar baith gaye.

Chaandni raat mein Okaydar apne bhai Hassan ke saath shikar ke liye qile se bahar nikla. Woh abhi qile se kuch hi door gaye the ke unka saamna Khalid ke sipahiyon se ho gaya.

Dono girohon ke darmiyan mukhtasar muqabla hua. Is dauran Okaydar ka bhai maara gaya. Uske saathi bhaag kar qile mein dakhil ho gaye aur darwaza band kar liya, jabke Okaydar ko qaid kar liya gaya.

Khalid ne Okaydar se wada kiya ke agar qile ke log uske hukm par darwaza khol dein aur apne hathiyar lashkar-e-Islam ke hawale kar dein to woh use maaf kar denge aur Rasool-e-Akram ﷺ ke paas le jayenge.

Okaydar jaanta tha ke Musalman sachche hote hain aur apne wadon ko poora karte hain. Isliye usne qile ka darwaza kholne aur hathiyar Musalmanon ke hawale karne ka hukm de diya.

Qile mein maujood hathiyaron mein 400 zireh, 500 talwarein aur 400 neza shamil the.

Okaydar is chadar ko badshahon ki tarah apne kandhon par rakhta tha.

Duniya ki daulat ko ahmiyat dene wale log us chadar ko dekh kar hairan reh gaye, lekin Rasool-e-Akram ﷺ ne uski taraf koi khaas tawajjuh nahi di aur farmaya:

“Jannat mein jaane walon ka libaas isse kahin zyada shandar hoga.”

Okaydar Rasool-e-Akram ﷺ ke paas pahuncha. Usne Islam qabool karne se inkar kiya, lekin Musalmanon ko jizya dene par razamand ho gaya. Chunanche uske aur Rasool-e-Akram ﷺ ke darmiyan ek muahida teh paya.

Iske baad Rasool-e-Akram ﷺ ne use qeemti tohfe diye aur ‘Abbad bin Bishr ko zimmedari di ke woh use salamati ke saath Dawmatul Jandal pahuncha dein.[18]

17. Safar-e-Tabuk ka Jaiza

Is mushkil aur takleef-deh safar ke natije mein Rasool-e-Akram ﷺ ka dushman ke saath aamne-saamne muqabla nahi hua aur koi jang bhi nahi hui. Iske bawajood is safar se kai aham faide hasil hue.[19]

Pehla faida: Is muhim se lashkar-e-Islam ki izzat aur shohrat mein izafa hua. Rasool-e-Akram ﷺ ne Hijaz ke logon aur Syria ke sarhadi ilaqon mein rehne walon ke dilon par Islami lashkar ki quwwat aur apni haisiyat ka gehra asar chhoda.

Islam ke doston aur dushmanon, dono ko maloom ho gaya ke Musalmanon ki fauji taqat itni barh chuki hai ke woh duniya ki badi se badi taqat ka saamna kar sakte hain aur use khaufzada kar sakte hain.

Arab qabeelon mein baghawat aur jurm jaise mamlaat aam ho chuke the. Lekin jab unhein lashkar-e-Islam ki quwwat ka ilm hua to woh kaafi arse tak Musalmanon ki mukhalifat aur baghawat se baaz rahe.

Isi wajah se Rasool-e-Akram ﷺ ki Madinah wapsi ke baad woh qabeelay jo ab tak Islami hukumat ke ita’at-guzar nahi hue the, apne numaindon ko Madinah bhejne lage. Woh Islami hukumat ke saamne apni farmabardari ka izhar karte aur Islam qabool karne ka elan karte the. Yahan tak ke hijrat ke nauwein saal ko Aam-ul-Wufood, yani wafdon ka saal, kaha jaane laga.

Doosra faida: Hijaz aur Syria ke sarhadi ilaqon ke hukmaranon ke saath mukhtalif muahide karne se Musalmanon ne is ilaqe ki salamati ko yaqini banaya. Unhein itminan ho gaya ke in qabeelon ke sardaar Roman lashkar ka saath nahi denge.

Teesra faida: Is mushkil safar ke zariye Rasool-e-Akram ﷺ ne Syria ki fatah ka raasta aasaan banaya. Aap ﷺ ne lashkar ke commanders ko is ilaqe ki mushkilat se waqif karaya aur unhein us daur ki badi taqaton ke khilaf jang karne ke tareeqe samjhaye.

Isi wajah se Rasool-e-Akram ﷺ ki wafat ke baad Musalmanon ne sabse pehle jin ilaqon ko fatah kiya, unmein Damascus aur Syria ka ilaqa shamil tha.

Iske alawa aam lashkar-kashi ke zariye sachche momineen aur munafiqeen ke darmiyan farq bhi wazeh ho gaya aur Musalmanon mein gehri samajh aur sha’oor paida hua.

18. Munafiqeen ki Rasool-e-Akram ﷺ ke Khilaf Sazish

Rasool-e-Akram ﷺ Tabuk mein das din qiyam karne ke baad Khalid bin Walid ko Dawmah rawana karke Madinah wapas hue.[20]

Jab lashkar-e-Islam us darre ke pehle hisse par pahuncha to Rasool-e-Akram ﷺ ne farmaya:

“Jo shakhs sehra ke raaste se jana chahe woh ja sakta hai, kyun ke sehra ka raasta bahut khula hai.”

Lekin Aap ﷺ khud pahari darre ke upar se guzre. Us waqt Hazrat Huzaifah Aap ﷺ ki oontni ko aage se chala rahe the aur Hazrat Ammar uski lagam pakde hue the.

Rasool-e-Akram ﷺ ne jab peeche mud kar dekha to chaandni raat mein kuch sawaron ko apna peecha karte hue dekha. Unhon ne apni pehchan chhupane ke liye chehre dhak rakhe the aur bahut dheemi aawaz mein aapas mein baat kar rahe the.

Rasool-e-Akram ﷺ ne narazgi ka izhar kiya aur unhein lalkaara. Aap ﷺ ne Hazrat Huzaifah ko hukm diya ke apni chhari se unki oonton ko doosri taraf hata dein.

Rasool-e-Akram ﷺ ki aawaz sunkar woh bahut ghabra gaye. Unhein samajh aa gaya ke Aap ﷺ ko unki sazish ka ilm ho chuka hai. Chunanche woh foran wapas laut gaye aur doosre sipahiyon ke saath ja mile.

Hazrat Huzaifah bayan karte hain:

“Agar main unhein saza doon to ghair-Muslim kahenge ke ab jab Muhammad ﷺ ko hukumat aur quwwat hasil ho gayi hai to unhon ne apne hi saathiyon ko nishana banana shuru kar diya hai.”[21]

19. Wapsi par Paida Hone Wali Surat-e-Haal

Apne watan wapas lautne wale ek fatah-yab lashkar ka manzar nihayat shandar hota hai. Ek sipahi ke liye dushman par fatah hasil karne se zyada khushi ki baat kya ho sakti hai, jabke is fatah se uski izzat, salamati aur wajood mehfooz ho.

Ghazwa-e-Tabuk se lashkar-e-Islam ki wapsi ke waqt ye dono baatein wazeh taur par nazar aa rahi thin.

Tabuk se Madinah ka safar tay karne ke baad lashkar-e-Islam shandar andaaz mein Madinah pahuncha. Muslim sipahi bahut khush the. Unki chaal aur guftagu se ek fatah-yab fauji hone ka fakhr zahir ho raha tha.

Unke fakhr ki wajah bhi wazeh thi. Unhon ne ek aisi badi taqat ko peeche hatne par majboor kar diya tha jisne pehle apne taqatwar dushman Iran ko shikast di thi. Musalmanon ne Romans ko khaufzada kar diya tha aur Syria aur Hijaz ke sarhadi ilaqon ke logon par bhi apni taqat ka asar chhod diya tha.

Yeh log dushman par ghalba hasil karke izzat aur kamyabi hasil kar chuke the. Isliye zahiri taur par unka un logon se apne aap ko behtar samajhna samajh mein aata tha jo baghair kisi jaiz uzr ke Madinah mein reh gaye the.

Lekin mumkin tha ke is tarah ki soch aur fatah ke baad paida hone wala fakhr kuch tang-nazar afrad mein ghair-zaroori takabbur paida kar de. Iska natija yeh ho sakta tha ke un logon ki tauheen hone lage jo kisi jaiz uzr ki wajah se Madinah mein reh gaye the, halanke unke dil lashkar ke saath the aur woh maidan-e-jang mein maujood sipahiyon ki takleef aur khushi mein barabar ke shareek the.

Isliye Rasool-e-Akram ﷺ ne Madinah ke qareeb ek maqam par, jahan lashkar kuch der ke liye ruka tha, sipahiyon ko khitab farmaya:

“Madinah mein kuch aise log hain jo is safar mein tumhare saath shareek rahe aur tumhare saath hi qadam se qadam mila kar chale.”

Rasool-e-Akram ﷺ se poocha gaya ke jo log Madinah mein reh gaye the, woh lashkar ke saath safar mein kaise shareek ho sakte hain?

Aap ﷺ ne jawab diya:

“Woh is muqaddas farz, yani jihad, mein shirkat ke liye bahut bechain the, lekin kisi jaiz uzr ki wajah se tumhare saath nahi aa sake.”[22]

Is mukhtasar khitab ke zariye Rasool-e-Akram ﷺ ne Islam ki ek aham taleem samjhayi. Aap ﷺ ne bataya ke nek niyyat aur durust soch bhi nek aamaal ki tarah ahmiyat rakhti hai.

Jo log taqat ya wasail ki kami ki wajah se nek kaam nahi kar sakte, woh bhi nek niyyat ke zariye doosron ke sawab aur ajr mein shareek ho sakte hain.

Islam zahiri islah ke saath-saath roohani islah aur paakiza soch par bhi bahut zor deta hai, kyun ke asal islah ka sarchashma aqeede aur soch ki islah hai. Insan ke tamam aamaal uski soch se hi janam lete hain.

Is tarah Rasool-e-Akram ﷺ ne Mujahideen ke ghair-zaroori fakhr ko door kiya aur jaiz uzr rakhne walon ke maqam ko wazeh kiya. Lekin Aap ﷺ ne usi waqt yeh bhi tay kar liya ke jin logon ne baghair kisi jaiz uzr ke hukm ki khilaf-warzi ki hai, unhein misaali saza di jayegi, taake doosre log bhi isse sabaq hasil karein.

Is silsile ka ek waqia neeche bayan kiya gaya hai.

Jis din Madinah mein aam lashkar-kashi ka elan hua, teen Musalman — Hilal, Ka’b aur Murarah — Rasool-e-Akram ﷺ ke paas aaye aur jihad mein shirkat se chhoot dene ki darkhwast ki.

Unhon ne uzr pesh kiya ke unke kheton aur baghon ki paidawar abhi jama nahi hui thi aur phal aadhe pake hue the. Unhon ne Rasool-e-Akram ﷺ se wada kiya ke chand din mein jab paidawar jama ho jayegi to woh Tabuk mein lashkar-e-Islam se aa milenge.

Jo log maaddi faide aur siyasi azadi ke darmiyan farq nahi karte, woh kam-nazar hote hain. Woh aarzi dunyawi lazzaton ko us ba-izzat zindagi ke barabar samajhte hain jo fikri, siyasi aur saqafati azadi ke saaye mein guzarti hai. Kabhi kabhi woh aarzi dunyawi faidon ko is azad aur ba-izzat zindagi par tarjeeh bhi de dete hain.

Rasool-e-Akram ﷺ ke liye Madinah wapas aane ke baad aise logon ko saza dena zaroori ho gaya, taake doosre logon ke zehan mein bhi yeh rawayya jagah na bana sake.

Apni ghalti par parda daalne aur doosre Musalmanon ko dhoka dene ke liye ye teenon bhi doosre logon ki tarah Rasool-e-Akram ﷺ ke istaqbal ke liye gaye. Unhon ne Aap ﷺ ko salam kiya aur mubarakbad di, lekin Aap ﷺ ne unki taraf koi tawajjuh nahi di.

Madinah pahunch kar Rasool-e-Akram ﷺ ne logon ke darmiyan, khushi aur shor-o-ghul ke mahaul mein khitab farmaya. Aap ﷺ ne sabse pehle farmaya:

“Aye logo! In teen afrad ne Islami ahkaam ko mamooli samjha aur mujhse kiya hua wada poora nahi kiya. Isliye tum inke saath apne talluqaat khatam kar do.”

Khilaf-warzi karne walon ki tadaad nabbe tak pahunch gayi thi. Inmein Murarah aur Hilal Ghazwa-e-Badr mein bhi shirkat kar chuke the aur Musalmanon ke darmiyan achhi shohrat rakhte the.

Rasool-e-Akram ﷺ ki hikmat par mabni is policy ka bahut gehra asar hua.

Aksariyat ke muqable mein ek chhoti si mukhalif jamaat ki zindagi zyada arse tak qaim nahi reh sakti, khaas taur par jab us jamaat mein shar-pasand, jhagdalu aur hasad rakhne wale log shamil hon.

Ek taraf unka muhasiba ho raha tha aur doosri taraf unki fitri quwwat unhein dobara sachche iman ki taraf kheench rahi thi.

Iske baad foran boycott khatam karne ka hukm jari kar diya gaya.[24]

20. Masjid-e-Zirar ka Waqia

Arab ke jazire mein Madinah aur Najran ko Ahl-e-Kitab ke do bade markaz aur wasi ilaqe samjha jata tha. Isliye Aws aur Khazraj qabeelon ke kuch Arab Yahudiyat aur Isaiyat ki taraf mail rakhte the aur in mazhabon ke pairokar ban chuke the.

Zamana-e-Jahiliyat mein Abu Amir, jo Uhud ki jang ke mashhoor shaheed Hazrat Hanzalah ke walid the, Isaiyat ki taraf bahut zyada mailan rakhte the aur rahib ban gaye the.

Jab Madinah mein Islam ka zuhoor hua aur usne mukhtalif mazhabi aqalliyaton ko apne daire mein shamil kiya to Abu Amir pareshan ho gaye.

Unhon ne is imarat ko masjid ka naam diya.

Jis din Rasool-e-Akram ﷺ Madinah wapas pahunche, unhon ne Aap ﷺ se darkhwast ki ke Aap ﷺ is ibadat-gah ka iftitah karne ke liye wahan chand rakat namaz ada farma dein.

Isi dauran Farishta Jibreel (A.S.) aaye aur Rasool-e-Akram ﷺ ko is imarat ki asal haqeeqat se aagah kiya. Is imarat ko Masjid-e-Zirar kaha gaya, kyun ke ise Musalmanon ke darmiyan ikhtilaf aur tafarruq paida karne ke liye banaya gaya tha.[26]

Rasool-e-Akram ﷺ ne hukm diya ke Masjid-e-Zirar ko gira diya jaye, uski lakriyon ko jala diya jaye aur uska malba kuch arse tak wahin pada rehne diya jaye.[27]

Masjid-e-Zirar ka khatma munafiqeen ke liye ek bada dhachka tha. Iske baad unka giroh toot gaya. Unka wahid himayati Abdullah bin Ubayy bhi Ghazwa-e-Tabuk ke do mahine baad wafat kar gaya.

Ghazwa-e-Tabuk aakhri Islami muhim thi jismein Rasool-e-Akram ﷺ ne khud shirkat farmayi. Iske baad Aap ﷺ kisi aur jang mein shareek nahi hue.

What Is Health?

What Is Health?

For you God subjected all that is in the heavens
And on the earth, all from Him.
Behold! In that are signs for people who reflect.

Qur’an 45:18

What is health? When we talk about the human organism existing in a state of health, we must first of all understand several interrelated questions. What is a human being? How did it come into existence? How is it sustained in existence? And what is the purpose of human life? Without understanding the answers to these questions (or at least the questions), we can never have a satisfactory knowledge of the real type of health we should be seeking. For without any criteria for what constitutes the proper functioning of a human being, how can we say that it even matters whether we are ill or well? Just because something feels “good” does not necessarily mean it is of ultimate benefit to us. And conversely, simply because at the moment we seem to have pain, we cannot dismiss this experience as “bad,” unless we understand how and what the result of these momentary sensa-tions will be.

Allah says in the Qur’an, “There may be a thing decreed for you that you do not like that is good for you; and things that you like that are not good for you.” The great Sufi Imam al-Ghazzalī (r.a.) expressed this idea as follows: “Illness is one of the forms of experience by which humans arrive at a knowledge of God; as He says, ‘Illnesses are my servants which I attach to My chosen friends.”

Thus, we ought not necessarily to consider illness our enemy; rather, we may see it as an event, a mechanism of the body, that is serving to cleanse, purify, and balance us on the physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual planes. Considered from this perspective, a bout of flu, a cold, diarrhea, even some kinds of agonizing pain are friends, enabling our bodies to purge unwanted and potentially harmful toxic by-products of metabolism.

Western medicine endeavors to halt or impede the various eliminative functions of the body-to stop the urge to vomit with stomach remedies; to block diarrhea with potions; to end fever with aspirin and related drugs. Behind every natural action of the human body is an inherent wisdom, a mechanism that allows the body to heal itself. In fact, no herb, food, or any other substance or procedure can do anything on its own to heal; it can only aid and assist the body in its own self-healing role. If your finger is cut, it is not the stitches or the bandage or the iodine that causes it to heal; it is the skin itself that performs this miracle.

When we think of illness, we almost always first think of injury or acute pain as the first stage. But today many people are realizing that other aspects of our mental world, our feelings and thoughts, can become un-balanced and cause illness and suffering, even though there may be nothing clinically “wrong” with a person. This approach to health and disease has come to be known as “holistic.”

It is rather easy to understand the physical level. The body lets us know-by means of our sense perceptions-sight, sound, touch, taste, and smell and the vegetative faculties-when something is wrong, and we take steps to correct the problem. The seat of the vegetative function-that is, the instinctive, life-sustaining work of the body-is the liver, sometimes called the Wheel of Life. All of our physical functions are cued by the functions and enzymes of the liver.

In Arabic, nafs is the word for the body and its appetites. Nafs means all of the demands of the body-for food, for warmth, for fame and fortune (all of these include emotional needs or drives). All physical diseases can be marked out by one or more of these physical dimensions.

The word nafs has many meanings: breath, animal life, soul, self, a person, essence, and more. In Sufism, the progression of the soul is described by considering the evolution of the nafs, which manifests in human behavior as one’s entire character, personality, and behavior. The nafsi am-mara is the commanding soul, which creates inordinate appetites. This is the condition of the nafs referred to when one occupies the station of egotism (magām an-nafs).

The behaviors recommended in the Qur’an (shariat) are meant to control and subdue these inordinate appetite, leading the nafs to a more refined status. The soul that has been entirely purified is called nafsi kull, meaning “universal soul,” which unites with Allah in the final stage of Sufism. However, even at the latest stages of Sufi practice, one cannot assume oneself to be immune to the blemishes of the soul.

The second aspect of our existence is the mind world, or let us say the emotional and mental world. The mind is not entirely separate from the physical body, but is part of and intimately connected with physical functioning. Moods and feelings that originate in the mind frequently have an effect on the body-emotions such as anger, fear, or extreme joy. When one or more of these is experienced, the blood pressure may rise or fall, the body sweats, tears may come.

Interestingly, some ailments or conditions that we have come to regard as purely emotional have their origin in physical imbalances. An example is severe anger. Psychologists would usually attribute this to a condition of the mind or emotions. But according to the Tibb system of the Persian physician Avicenna, severe anger is one of the body’s most effective ways of dispelling excess moisture in the area of the heart. It is easily corrected with a diet.

The realm of the mental world is called fikr in Arabic. In essence, fikr means meditation or deep-thought process.

The third component of our existence is the soul, called the ruh. The ruh is that which exists after death, which marks the end of both physical and mental life.

The interaction of the three realms (or the activation of the physical and mental realms by the soul realm) is carried out by means of the spirit. Many people use the words “spirit” and “soul” to mean the same thing, yet they are distinctly different and separate. The spirit is what activates the physical-level existence, including thought processes. The word for this spirit-activator is nafas. It is activated at the point of the breath. The point of the lips where in-breath and out-breath unite is the link between life and death.

We can live without mental activity and without physical movement. But without breath, life ceases in a very short time. There are people who live without mental existence. Although an electroencephalograph shows that their brain waves are not functioning, they may be kept “alive” by mechanical means. They are called “brain dead,” yet they are still regarded as living; we do not bury them. This means that there is something superior to this mental existence and physical existence. Such persons still have something left of life in them, and that something is the breath.

The Sufis consider that the breath of life exists and continues by virtue of the idhn, or permission of God, the One Who has created us all. What we call the Creator-God, Allah, Yahweh, or whatever does not matter.

In His ultimate reality, God is one. He gives His permission for human life to exist in the first place, and as long as that permission remains, we may draw breath in and out. Regardless of which system of healing we may wish to apply, or how skilled the practitioner, even if all the healers of the world came together, they could not counteract the idhn. When the permission is withdrawn, there is no more breath; life ceases.

Interesting cases bear this out. When a child is born, it does not breathe right away. Some say the shock of the cold air starts it breathing. But not in every case does this happen. The Sufis would say that Allah sends His idhn for that particular life to commence. If He does not send His permission, no amount of spanking or technological effort can force the baby to breathe. It will be a stillborn.

On the other hand, sometimes, despite every effort to end a life, the permission overrides human efforts. A recent article in a medical journal told of a couple who had informed their doctor that they did not want to have children under any circumstances. The doctor suggested that the husband undergo a permanent vasectomy, and so it was performed. A few months later the couple was back, furious with the doctor, because the wife had become pregnant. The doctor then offered to perform a free abortion to terminate the pregnancy. This procedure was done. Another month later, the couple sued the doctor for malpractice when the woman discovered that she was still pregnant!

Despite the sterilization and the abortion, the idhn of God was that this particular child would be born. And so it was. Clearly, there is an Authority against Whom we have no real ability to interfere.

Consider the nonmanifest realms-the world of dreams, of intuition, of abstract phenomena and the many cases of people reporting encounters with UFOs, demons, poltergeists, and the like. No one in the West has so far come forward with a fully developed conceptual framework with which to deal with these “other-worldly” experiences. The Sufis use the term ghayb to refer to events that transpire in the unseen realms. This unseen realm includes the actions of the soul.

The center, or seat, of the soul’s existence is the heart. With what do we associate the heart and soul? Love, compassion, sympathy, mercy, and all of our religious sentiments. When someone dies, the grief of the survivors is felt in the heart. It is actually a physical pain. The heart aches. There is so much terminology in our language about these soul-related aspects of the heart. And no one can deny that these feelings of love and compassion do exist. No one is without them.

In Arabic, the heart is called qalb. The heart according to the Sufis is not just a physiological pump for dispersing blood about the body. It serves two more vital, interrelated functions. One, the heart is the storehouse of divine attributes; and two, it is the seat of manufacture of the nafas-that life-activating force which enters with each breath, the breath that activates all physiological functions.

Thus, when the idhn, or permission of God, is drawn in, it goes im-mediately to the heart. In some manner, this idhn activates all of the divine attributes in various combinations, and these then are carried out into the body.

The Qur’an informs that these divine attributes are approximately ninety-nine in number and are what Allah uses as the means of allowing the human to function and work on the created plane of being.

For example, one of these attributes is called al-Başır, which means “the Perceiver.” In other words, Allah sees everything at all times; there is nothing that escapes the view of God, not even the most intimate thoughts. This başır exists as a potentiality within us at all times, stored in the heart.

When Allah sends His idhn in on a breath, and this is combined with certain sounds we utter, the potentiality will then travel through a semigaseous network called a humor. The potentiality moves along this network until it reaches the moist, crystalline lens of the eye. Once there, the potentiality unites with the physical part of the body and becomes the actuality of sight. Perception, the total potentiality of al-Başır, also includes such things as insight, our sensation of majesty when viewing a panoramic sunset, and similar experiences. All of these perceptive capabilities are included within the potentiality of perception.

All of these ninety-nine divine attributes, then, are stored within the heart. These potentialities may be activated by means of various sounds we utter in combination to make words.

The three basic sounds are the long vowel sounds of ā, ī, and ū. These are what the Sufis call the universal harmonic constants, and they are similarly used in all mystic paths that utilize sounds (otherwise called mantras or wazifahs).

We do not sing or chant these sounds. Rather, they are voiced in the normal course of our conversations. The word Allāh, as an example, is just an elongation of the long vowel sound of a, interrupted once with the consonant of the letter 1, which makes the shape of the letter a with the tongue. Even animals utter various combinations of these three long vowel sounds. The owl, for example, says, “Hoo!” The pronoun for God in Arabic is Hū, pronounced exactly the same way that the owl utters its remembrance of the divine name.

Allah has informed us, “Every creature in the Heavens and the earth glorifies His Name.” The Sufi, knowing the Arabic tones and names of God, is able to attune to a cosmic conversation that is constantly going on throughout all of existence as countless creatures utter their variations of the divine name.

The use of these three constants is not arbitrary. The long vowel sound of a (as in father), as a vibratory tone, travels downward and slightly to the left from the throat and centers in the heart, thereby stimulating all of the divine attributes stored within. The long sound of i (as in machine) moves in the opposite direction, up the nasal septum, and vibrates at the point of the pineal gland, which is considered to be a remnant of the third eye, a light-sensitive organ.

The long sound of ü (as in you) exists when uttered exactly at the point on the pursed lips, the point of connection between the in- and out-breaths. It is where our action meets and intermingles with the divine permission, the idhn.

The Sufis use various formulas or combinations of these tones to produce electrifying effects that are able in and of themselves to unlock congested areas within the heart, thereby releasing one or more potentialities. This alone accounts for a considerable number of miraculous cures.

So the very words we use to make conversation are hardly a random matter. When we say the word “eat” (making the sound of the long i), for example, we are actually stimulating the endocrine system’s pineal gland! The pineal gland receives a vibratory signal that causes a series of ethereal shocks which go throughout the body, providing information to all of the physiological functions.

These events are in conjunction with what transpires throughout nature when the sun sends certain germinative shocks through the soil which cause the seed to open and send out rootlets. The germinal center of the seed is activated by shocks from the sun. Likewise, various centers within the human body are awakened by the undulations of the vibratory tones in these universal harmonic constants. The effects upon human health are profound.

This interconnection between the physical and spiritual realms exists all through nature, of which humans are a part. One might say that animals are more attuned to it; sometimes horses and other animals give a particular sound just before they die, and animals nearby know the meaning of this sound. Animals have greater awareness of the unseen realms. Humans should have this knowledge, but they do not seek it. Humans are more bound to the physical plane.

There must be a knowledge and consideration of the physical, mental, and spiritual planes of existence for there to be true health. By understand-ing each of these planes of being, we can arrive at the correct modes of balancing and treating each one. If the subject of disease is looked into deeply enough, the origin of all illness can be said to lie in the mind. There must be a thought or concept of an illness in order for it to exist. But what is the mind? Some say it is a collection of cells that have many functions and possibilities. But the Sufis attribute a great deal more to the mind, as the repository of the intellect, which God has given to humans, thus making them unique among all of the creation. Before this mind can be adequately understood, we first have to have a conception of the entire universe, from the most minute bacterial life up to God. This is known as the hierarchy of creation.

AYAT-E-SADQAH

AYAT-E-SADQAH

In Surah Mujaadilah, verse 12, the Holy Qur’an declares:

“O believers! When you desire to say anything secretly to the Messenger, then give some alms before your submission. This is better for you and purer. But if you are unable to give anything then Allah is Forgiving, Merciful.”

It is reported that certain rich and influential people used to visit the Holy Prophet Sallal Laahu ‘Alayhi Wasallam and used to speak about unnecessary things. In this manner, other people especially the poor did not get the opportunity to speak to the Holy Prophet Sallal Laahu ‘Alayhi Wasallam. When Hadrat Sayyiduna ‘Ali Radi Allahu ‘Anhu noticed this, he was extremely displeased and mentioned to the Holy Prophet Sallal Laahu ‘Alayhi Wasallam, “O Prophet of Allah! If there was a law which made it necessary upon these rich people to give Sadqah first before they spoke to you, in this way, this Sadqah will also be able to help the poor and needy. In like manner, since they are given less opportunity to speak to you (through this Sadqah given to them, these poor people) will also become happier.”

The Holy Prophet Sallal Laahu ‘Alayhi Wasallam replied, ‘O ‘Ali! You have spoken the truth. However, I cannot place such an instruction upon these people because I do not want to hurt their feeling.”

However, a little while later, the above verse was revealed and the same command was given in this verse as per the wishes of Hadrat Sayyiduna ‘Ali Radi Allahu ‘Anhu.

When this verse was revealed, the Holy Prophet Sallal Laahu ‘Alayhi Wasallam stated, “O ‘Ali! Allah azza wajal has fulfilled your wishes and had placed a restriction that without giving Sadqah, they should not present themselves so that this can help the poor”.

When Hadrat Ali Radi Allahu Anhu heard this, he also immediately gave Sadqah and began speaking to the Holy Prophet Sallal Laahu ‘Alayhi Wasallam. He also inquired about ten issues. Thereafter, this command was abrogated because certain poor people could not manage to give anything. This is the reason that later Hadrat Sayyiduna ‘Ali Radi Allahu Anhu is reported to have stated, “There is a verse in the Holy Qur’an who no one practised upon except for me and after me, no one could fulfil (this command).” (Tafseer Madaarik, Tafseer Khaazin)

Hazrat Bilal bin Rabah R.A

One of the most famous Negroes who achieved enduring repute in the history is Bilal the Moazzin[1]of the Holy Prophet (s.a.w.a.)

His father’s name was Rabah and mother’s name was Hamama. Abu Abdullah was his cognomen and he was a Moazzin as well as a treasurer in the time of Holy Prophet (s.a.w.a.). He was Muslim true to his faith and in the battles of Badr and Ohad he fought on the side of the Holy Prophet (s.a.w.a.).

Bilal was a strong willed and unflinching person. When he accepted Islam, the polytheists of Mecca began to persecute him. With magnificent fortitude he endured the troubles, but did never utter a word of unbelief. Omayya bin Khalaf used to bring Bilal in the outskirts of Mecca and make him lie on the hot sand at midday. He used to lay a heavy stone on Bilal’s chest and say – Bilal will remain in this condition till death or he should deny Muhammad (s.a.w.a.). Bilal’s courage never fluttered under such severe hardships and he used to say ‘One, One.’ (Allah is one).

Abdullah has narrated that pioneer acceptors of Islam were eight per-sons and they included Bilal. The Holy Prophet (s.a.w.a.) was protected by his uncle Abu Talib (a.s.). Abu Bakr who was also one of them was looked after by his family. The remaining helpless persons were seized by the polytheists of Mecca. The captives were forced to stand in the sun at midday and ordered to utter anti Islamic words. Hard pressed by the agony of standing in extreme heat everybody obeyed for the moment, save Bilal. He never gave up under any odds. Being a Muslim, he was despised even by his own community. The polytheists sometimes used to give Bilal to the children’s gangs and they pulled him in the streets with a rope tied round his neck. Even in this condition he used to cry Ahad, Ahad (Allah is one, Allah is one).[2]

Ata Khorsani said, ‘I was sitting with Saeed bin Mosayyab and he mentioned Bilal. He said that the polytheists wanted to convert Bilal by force but he continued to utter Allah, Allah. Once the Holy Prophet (s.a.w.a.) met Abu Bakr and said, ‘If we had enough money, we would have purchased Bilal.’ Abu Bakr at once went to Abbas bin Abdul Mut-talib and requested to him to procure Bilal.

Abbas went to the owner of Bilal who was a woman and said to her, ‘Sell Bilal to me before his death, because if he dies you will lose his value.’ She said: ‘What will you do with him he is a very bad person.’ Despite her repeated refusal to sell, Abbas persisted and at last the deal

was made. Abbas purchased Bilal and sent him to Abu Bakr, the latter immediately emancipated him. [3]

Bilal was a tall, lean and a weak man. His skin was dark wheatish. His beard was coarse. The companions who narrated traditions from Bilal, are Abu Bakr, Omar, Osama bin Zaid, Abdullah ibne Omar, Ka’ab ibne Ajra, Bara ibne Aazib, etc. etc.

Attention should also be paid to the fact that the five Muslims who were captured by the infidels and chained in iron shackles and made to stand in the sun to utter anti-Islamic wordings did so, except Bilal. The behaviour of uttering un-Islamic wording of the four persons under du-ress to get release is called ‘Taqiayya’ by the Shias. Those who dislike Shias on account of their belief in Taqaiyya should take note of it that even the companions of the Holy Prophet (s.a.w.a.) believed in Taqaiyya and practised it.

Shaikh Abu Ja’far Toosi (r.a.) has written in his Ikhtiyar-ul-Rijal that Imam Ja’far Sadiq (a.s.) said that Bilal had refused to take an oath of alle-giance to Abu Bakr and this had made Omar angry. Once he caught Bilal by his clothes and said: ‘O Bilal! Is it the proper manner to repay for the benevolence of Abu Bakr? He emancipated you and you refuse even to take an oath of allegiance to him.’ Bilal replied, ‘If he has freed me for the sake of Allah, then leave me alone (Let me do whatever I like best) and if he has done it for making conflicts, I am ready to become a slave again, but I shall never take an oath of allegiance. Allah blessed me with good and bestowed upon me virtues and immense is the good from Allah.’

In Isteeaab it is written that when the Holy Prophet (s.a.w.a.) died, Bilal found it unbearable to live in Medina so he wanted to go to Syria. Abu Bakr told him to live in Medina and do his (Abu Bakr’s) service but Bilal refused saying: ‘If you have freed me for Allah, captivate me not, so that I may go wherever I want. But if you freed me for yourself then you may enslave me.’ Abu Bakr permitted him to go, hence he went to Syria.[4]

Imam Ja’far Sadiq (a.s.) is reported to have said,

May Allah shower His blessings on Bilal, who loved us Ahlul Bait (a.s.). He was a pious man.

Bilal died of plague in Syria in 18 A.H. or 20 A.H. and was buried at Baab-e-Saghir. Sheikh Abbas Qummi (a.r.) says that his tomb is famous and is visited by the pilgrims. He himself had visited it.

[1] Moazzin means a public crier in a mosque who calls the people to prayer
