The Donkey and the Master
A young disciple once complained to his Sufi master:
“Master, the harder I work, the more responsibilities people put on my shoulders. Why is life so unfair?”
The master smiled and pointed to a donkey carrying heavy stones.
“Look at this donkey,” he said. “The owner sees only its strength, so he keeps adding weight. But the donkey remains a donkey because it never learns where the stones are going.”
Then the master pointed to a caravan leader walking ahead.
“The leader once carried stones too. But instead of only carrying the load, he learned the road, understood the destination, and helped others find their way.”
The disciple asked, “What is the lesson?”
The master replied:
“If people give you more work because you are capable, do not only become stronger. Become wiser. A burden carried blindly makes a servant; a burden understood deeply makes a leader.”
Sufi Wisdom:
“Life does not elevate us by the weight we carry, but by the vision we develop while carrying it.” ✨
