We have already seen that Sayyidina Ibrahim AlahisSalam had many children, but the most known of them were two brothers both great Prophets and Messengers Sayyidina Isma’il and Sayyidina Ishaq AlahisSalam. The elder who was truly the Zabeeh was Isma’il, the first born of Sayyidina Ibrahim , from his wife Hajarah AlahisSalam.
Those who say that Ishaq that was the Zabeeh borrow from the traditions of the Banu Isra’il who have tampered with facts and interpolated the Torah and Injil.
Sayyidina Isma’il AlaihisSalam was born when Sayyidina Ibrahim was eighty-six years old and Ishaq AlahisSalam when he was more than a hundred years old. By all accounts, therefore, Isma’il AlahisSalam was the eldest son and the Zabeeh, and the only son at the time of sacrifice.
He was the one whom his father took alongwith his mother to the mountains of Makkah known as Faran and left them there all alone with a bare amount of water and food. In doing so, he had placed reliance in Allah Who is the Best of the Protectors. He is the One Who suffices.
And mention in the Book Isma’il. Surely, he was true to his promise, and he was a Messenger, a Prophet. And he enjoined upon his household the Salah and Zakah, and he was with his Lord an approved one. (Manyam, 19:54-55)
Allah has described him with many beautiful qualities and He made him His Prophet and Messenger.
The genealogists tell us that Sayyidina Isma’il AlaihisSalam store was the first one to ride a horse. Until then horses were not domesticated so he tamed them and rode them. Abdullah Ibn Umar Radiallahu anhoo has narrated a Hadith:
The Messenger of Allahﷺ said, “Take up horse riding and pursue it for it is the legacy of your father, Isma’il.”
He was the first one to speak eloquent Arabic. He learnt it from the Arab Al-Aaribah who had stayed with him and his mother at Makkah – of the

tribes of Jurhum, Al-Amaleeq, and the people of Yaman. The Holy Prophet ﷺsaid that the first one to open his tongue to eloquent Arabic was Isma’il started while he was fourteen years old.
We have stated earlier in discussing the events in the life of Sayyidina Ibrahim AlahisSalam that when he grew up he married a woman of Al-Amaleeq. However, his father commarded him to divorce her, so he did so. He then married another women and his father commanded him to retain her, so he carried on with her. She was of the Jurhum tribe. It is said that she was his third wife. She gave birth to twelve sons.
Sayyidina Isma’il AlaihisSalam was the Messenger of Allah to the people of that area and those around it, the tribes of Jurham, Al-‘Amaleeq and the people of Yaman. May blessings of Allah and peace be on him.
When death was near he left a will for his brother, Sayyidina Ishaq AlahisSalam and he gave, his daughter, Nasmah, in marriage to ‘Al-‘Ays’, son of Sayyidina Ishaq AlahisSalam. Their children were known as Banu Asfar, after the yellow tinge in Al-‘Ays.
The Prophet of Allah, Sayyidina Isma’il AlaihisSalam was buried within the area Al-Hijr, next to his mother, Sayyidah Hajarah AlaihisSalam. He died at the age of 137 years.
All the Arabs of Al -Hijaz are descended from his sons, Nabit and Qayzar.
