Ḥaḍrat Khwāja Darwīsh Muḥammad qaddas-Allahu sirruhu was the nephew (son of sister) of Khwāja Muḥammad Zāhid Wakhshi quddisa sirruhu, and was his chief deputy and spiritual successor.
He was born on 16th Shawwal 846 AH (17/18 February 1443).
He passed away on Thursday 19th Muḥarram 970H (17 September 1562). His tomb lies in a village close to the Shahrisabz city, in Uzbekistan.
Among his deputies and beloved disciples were the following:
- His son Khwāja Muhammad Amkanagī quddisa sirruhu who became his chief spiritual successor
- Khwāja Mīrak Gunbaz-Sabzī quddisa sirruhu was one of his chief deputies.

May Allah Sanctify His Soul
“It is not my part, if trials come my way, to turn away from them,
Nor, if I am flooded with joy, to abandon myself to it;
For I am not of those who, for the loss of one thing, are consoled
By another; I wish nothing less than the All.”
Shaykh `Abdul-Qadir al-Jilani.
He is the Ghawth (Arch-Intercessor) of the Famous Saints and the Blessing of the Scholars of Islam. He is the Dawn and the Light of both the East and the West. He is the Master of the Kingdom of Guidance. He grew up in the house of his uncle who taught him the best manners, educated him in spiritual and religious knowledge, and nursed him from the fount of morality and ethics. He quenched his thirst with the Heavenly Realities and Unseen Knowledge, until his heart became a House of Revelation, as Allah said in the Holy Hadith, “Neither my heaven nor my earth could contain Me, but the heart of my Believing Servant contained Me.”
He was known in his time as Darwish Wali. He grasped all kinds of understandings of the Religion and he was able to erase the mischief and the misguidance of many of the false teachers of his time. He revived languishing hearts and he mended broken hearts, until he became the blessing of his time and the Human Essence of Guidance. He had many followers throughout the country. His house and his mosque were filled with visitors asking and seeking his guidance.
One time after an association he had just held with him and other murids, Shaykh Muhammad az-Zahid told him to go up a certain hill at some distance and wait for him there. The Shaykh told him he would be coming later. Darwish Muhammad was so obedient to his Shaykh that he surrendered his will to him completely. His conduct was perfect. He went and waited for the Shaykh to come, without using his mind to ask: “how shall I go there, what shall I do when I get there, etc.” He moved immediately. He arrived and began to wait. The time for afternoon prayers came and the Shaykh did not show up. Then the sun set. His ego was telling him, “Your Shaykh isn’t coming; you have to go back. Maybe the Shaykh forgot.” His truthful belief, however, told him: “O Darwish Muhammad, believe in your Shaykh and believe that he is certainly coming, as he said. You have to wait.”
How was Darwish Muhammad’s heart to believe his ego when his heart was being lifted up to be with his Shaykh? He braced up and waited. Night came and it was very cold on the hill. He was freezing. He spent all night awake and his only source of warmth was his dhikr of “la ilaha illallah”. Dawn came and the Shaykh had still not shown up. He was hungry and started looking for something to eat. He found some fruit trees, ate, and kept waiting for the Shaykh. The day went, and then the next day. He was again in a big struggle with his ego, but he kept thinking: “If my Shaykh is a real Shaykh, he knows what he is doing.”
A week went and then a month. The Shaykh was not coming. The only distraction Darwish Muhammad had from waiting was dhikrullah, and his daily prayers were his only other activity. He kept on only until the power of his dhikr made the animals come and sit around him to make dhikr with him. He realized that this miraculous power had come to him from his Shaykh.
Winter came and the Shaykh didn’t come. It began to snow. It was extremely cold and there was no more food. He began to cut the bark of the trees and feed himself on the moisture inside, and from roots and whatever green leaves he could find. Deer came to him and he began to milk the ewes. This was another miracle which appeared to him. The ewe did not move when he milked her, and another came. He was being lifted up to higher and higher spiritual levels, and his teacher was sending him spiritual knowledge through these miracles and visions. Khidr was appearing to him and teaching him.
A year passed, then another, then a third, and then the fourth year. The Shaykh was not coming, and Darwish Muhammad was ascending to a higher and higher states of patience (sabr). He kept thinking, “My Shaykh knows.” At the end of the seventh year he began to smell the fragrance of his Shaykh filling all the air around him. He ran to meet the Shaykh with all his wild animal companions in his train. He was completely covered with hair.
Shaykh Muhammad az-Zahid arrived. When Darwish Muhammad saw him, he felt intense joy in his heart, and immense love for his Shaykh. He ran to him and kissed his Shaykh’s hand, as he was crying out: “Salamu `alaikum, O my Shaykh! How I love you, O my Shaykh!”
His Shaykh said: “What are you doing here? Why did you not come down?” He said, “O my Shaykh, you said to come here and wait for you, so I waited for you.” The Shaykh said: “What if I died, or perhaps I forgot?” Darwish Muhammad said, “O My Shaykh, how are you going to forget when you are the representative of the Prophet ?” He said, “What if something had happened to me?” Darwish Muhammad said, “O my Shaykh, if I had not stayed here and waited for you and obeyed, you would have never come to me by permission of the Prophet !” Darwish Muhammad had detected in his heart that his Shaykh was coming by the order of the Prophet .
The Shaykh laughed and said: “Come with me.” At that moment he poured to him the secret and the power of this Golden Chain of the Naqshbandi order that he had in his heart. He then ordered him to be the Shaykh of the murids. Darwish Muhammad remained in his Shaykh’s service until Shaykh Muhammad az-Zahid passed away.
Darwish Muhammad died on the 19th of Muharram, 970 H. He passed the secret of the Order to his son, Muhammad Khwaja al-Amkanaki (q).
Hazrat Khwaja Durwesh Muhammad rahmatullāhi alaihi :
Aap ki wilaadat 16 Shawwaal 846 Hijri (17/18 February 1443 A.D.) ko hui.
Aap Hazrat Khwaja Muhammad Zaahid Vakhshi ke bhaanje hain.
Aap apne Peer Khwaja Muhammad Zaahid Vakhshi rahmatullāhi alaihi ke har hukm ki taamil karte.
Ek martaba aap ke Peer o murshid ne aap ko kuchh door ek pahaadi par jaakar theharne ke liye farmaaya aur farmaaya ke ‘Main baad me waha aaunga.’ Aap foran us pahaadi ki jaanib rawaana ho gaye. Waha pahunchkar apne Peer saahab ka intazaar karne lage. Waqt guzarte Asr ka waqt ho gaya phir maghrib ka waqt ho gaya. Aap ka nafs keh raha tha ‘Shaayad Peer bhul gaye hain. Tumhe waapas jaana chaahiye.’ Magar aap ka yaqeen keh raha tha ke ‘Mujhe yaha par intazaar karna chaahiye. Mere Peer saahab kuchh der me aa jaayenge.’ Raat ke waqt bahot thand shuru ho gai. Aap ke paas odhne ke liye koi cheez nahi thi. Aap ne ‘Laă ilāha illallāh’ ka zikr karte hue puri raat guzaari. Subah ko aap ko bhuk lagi to aap ne darakht se phal todkar khaaye. Dusre din phir se kashmkash shuru hui. Aap ne apne nafs se kaha ‘Agar mere peer Shaikh e saadiq hain to wo mera haal dekh rahe hain.’
Isi tarah ek mahina guzar gaya. Aap 5 waqt namaaz ada karte rahe aur zikre ilāhi karte rahe. Jaanwar aakar aap ke paas baithte aur aap ke saath zikr me saamil hone lage. Aap ne socha ke ‘Ye zaroor mere peer ka faiz hai.’
Isi tarah thandi ka mausam aa gaya. Jab khaane ke liye koi cheez nahi rahi to aap darakhto ke patte aur tehniya chabaakar khaane lage. ALLĀH ke fazl se aap baatini faiz se maalamaal hote rahe. Phir ek hirni waha aai aur aap ne bakriyo ko hirni ka doodh pilaana shuru kiya. Bakriya ek ke baad ek aakar doodh piti rehti. Isi tarh aap roohaaniyat ke aala maqaam par faa’iz hote rahe.
Kuchh arse baad aap ke Peer waha aaye to aap ne kaha ‘Agar main aap ke farmaan par yaha aakar na theharta to Huzoor Sarware kaunain sallallāhu alaihi wa salaam ke farmaan par aap yaha nahi aate.’
Khwaja Muhammad Zaahid Wakhshi muskuraaye aur aap ko un ke saath aane ke liye farmaaya aur tamaam faizaan ata farmaaye aur khilaafat ata farmai.
Aap hamesha saadgi ke saath rehte the taake log aap ko pehchaan na sake.
Aap ke saahabzaade Khwaja Muhammad Amkanaki rahmatullāhi alaihi bayaan karte hain ke
Ek martaba ek durwesh ne mere waalid ke saamne Hazrat Noor-ud-deen Khwaafi rahmatullāhi alaihi ka zikr kiya. Mere waalid ne mujh se farmaaya ‘Bete! Hazrat Noor-ud-deen Khwaafi is zamaane ke ek bade wali hain. Jab bhi wo yaha aaye to un se zaroor mulaaqaat karna.’
Kuchh dino baad Hazrat Noor-ud-deen Khwaafi hamare gaanv se guzre. Mere waalid ko jab is ke baare me pata chala to wo apne saath tohfe lekar Hazrat ke istaqbaal ke liye gaye. Main bhi un ke saath gaya.
Jab hum waha pahunche to Hazrat ne bhi mere waalid ka istaqbaal kiya. Jab unho ne muaneka kiya to kuchh der tak ek dusre se lipte rahe. Phir dono ne saath me taweel muraaqaba kiya. Jab mere waalid waha se rawaana hue to Hazrat kuchh door tak un ke saath me chale aur phir alwida kaha.
Jab mere waalid chale gaye to Hazrat ne waha maujood logo se kaha ke Is ilaaqe ke taalibaane faiz ko Khwaja Durwesh Muhammad ko zaroor milna chaahiye. Logo ne kaha ke Wo koi shaikh nahi hain. Wo to Mulla hain jo bacho ko Qur’an sikhaate hain. Ye sunkar Hazrat Shaikh Noor-ud-deen ne farmaaya ke Ye log kitne andhe aur murda dil hain jo ek azeem buzurgh se faiz haasil nahi karte.’
Is ke baad badi ta’adaad me log aap ki baargaah me aakar faiz aur ta’aleem haasil karne lage. Aap ke faiz wa taaleem se bahot saare log Tasawwuf me aala maqaam par pahunch gaye.
Aap itna ilm o kamaal rakhte ke gustaakho aur baatilo ki gumraahi ko zaahir kar dete.
Aap Hazrat Khwaja Sharf-ud-deen Muhammad Zaahid Vakhshi rahmatullāhi alaihi ke mureed aur khalifa hain.
Aur ‘Naqshbandi Ahraari’ silsila ke Shaikh hain.

(5) Hazrat Shaikh Salawati rahmatullāhi alaihi.
Aap ka wisaal 19 Moharram 970 Hijri (17 September 1562 A.D.) ko hua.
Aap ka mazaar Shahrisabz ke qareeb Asqarar (Uzbekistan) me hai.
ALLĀH ta’ala us ke Habeeb sallallāhu alaihi wa sallam ke sadqe me
Aur Hazrat Khwaja Durwesh Muhammad Bukhari rahmatullāhi alaihi aur tamaam Auliya Allāh ke waseele se
Sab ko mukammal ishq e Rasool ata farmae aur Sab ke Eimaan ki hifaazat farmae aur Sab ko nek amal karne ki taufiq ata farmae.
Aur Sab ko dunya wa aakhirat me kaamyaabi ata farmae aur Sab ki nek jaa’iz muraado ko puri farmae.
