■ Baḥr al-ʿUlūm: Sayyidī Jalāl al-Dīn al-Suyūṭī,
May Almighty Allāh sanctify his noble secrets.
The maqām (shrine) of Jalāl al-Dīn al-Suyūṭī, may Almighty Allāh sanctify his secret, in Asyut is known as a place of vision (mashhad ru’yā).
It is said that the one buried there is his father, Kamal al-Din al-Suyuti, while the actual grave of al-Suyūṭī himself is in the cemeteries of Cairo, near the area of Sayyida ʿĀʾisha.
He is Jalāl al-Dīn Kamāl al-Dīn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Abī Bakr ibn Muḥammad ibn Sābiq al-Dīn al-Khuḍayrī al-Suyūṭī, peace be upon them.
He was born in Cairo in 1445 CE. He was an Imām, ḥāfiẓ (master of hadith), exegete (mufassir), historian, man of letters, and a Shāfiʿī jurist. He authored around 600 works.
He grew up an orphan, as his father died when he was five years old. When he reached the age of forty, he withdrew from people and devoted himself to seclusion near Rawḍat al-Miqyās by the Nile, isolating himself even from his close companions.
Princes and wealthy people would visit him
and offer him money, but he would refuse it. Some scholars of his time accused him of attributing certain books to himself.
He passed away in Cairo in 1505 CE and was buried in his well-known shrine in the cemeteries attributed to him (Maqābir Sīdī Jalāl).

Among the karāmāt (miracles) attributed to Sayyidī Jalāl al-Dīn al-Suyūṭī, may Allah sanctify his secret:
It is narrated by Muḥammad ibn ʿAlī al-Ḥabbāk, a servant of al-Suyūṭī, that the Shaykh once said to him at midday, while they were at the zawiya and maqām of Abdullah al-Juyushi on Mount Muqaṭṭam in Egypt:
“Do you wish to pray ʿAṣr in Mecca, on the condition that you keep this secret until I die?”
He said: “Yes.”
He said: “He took my hand and said: Close your eyes.” I closed them. He walked with me about twenty-seven steps, then said: “Open your eyes.”
And suddenly we were at the gate of al-Maʿlā (in Mecca).
We visited the resting place of Sayyida Khadīja, Mother of the Believers, and the graves of the righteous such as Fudayl ibn Iyad and Sufyan ibn Uyaynah and others.
We entered the Sacred Mosque, performed ṭawāf, drank from Zamzam, and sat behind
the maqām until we prayed ʿAṣr.
Then al-Suyūṭī said:
“O so-and-so! The wonder is not that the earth was folded for us, rather, the wonder is that someone among the people of Egypt who live near us does not recognize us.”
Then he said:
“If you wish, you may remain here until ḥajj,
or return with me.”
He said: “I will return with my master.”
We went back to the gate of al-Maʿlā, and he said: “Close your eyes.” I did so. He hurried with me a few steps, then said: “Open your eyes.”
And we were once again near the maqām of al-Juyūshī on Mount Muqaṭṭam.
Then we descended to the maqām of Umar ibn al-Farid in the valley of Muqaṭṭam.

It is also mentioned that there are two attributed maqāms for Sayyidī Jalāl al-Dīn al-Suyūṭī:one in Asyut (Upper Egypt), and another near Sayyida ʿĀʾisha in Cairo.
