■ What is Zikr-e-Qalb ?

Hazrat Qazi Sanaullah Panipati (رحمه الله) explains that linguistic dhikr (remembrance of Allah with the tongue) is considered an innovation Biddah by the consensus of scholars, except in cases of necessity. True dhikr, he states, is the hidden remembrance within the heart and soul (Zikr-e-Qalbi or Zikr-e-Khafi). This form of dhikr is so concealed that the tongue has no role in it, and even the recording angels (Kiraman Katibeen) cannot hear it.
Imam Abu Yala (رحمه الله) narrates from Hazrat Aisha Siddiqa (رضي الله عنها) that RasoolAllah ﷺ said:
❝The secret dhikr, which the angels cannot hear, is 70 times superior to the dhikr made with the tongue.❞
On the Day of Judgment, when Allah ﷻ gathers creation for reckoning and the angels present their records, Allah ﷻ will ask,
❝Is there no good left for this servant?❞
The angels will reply,
❝We have recorded everything we were aware of.❞
Allah ﷻ will then reveal,
❝There is a good deed you do not know about: the servant’s secret remembrance.❞
This form of remembrance remains pure, uninterrupted, and free from disturbances or distractions.
Quranic Verse:
Allah ﷻ commands in the Qur’an:
❝And remember your Lord within yourself.❞
(Surah Al-A’raf: 205)
