He is al-Imam al-Habeeb Noor-ud-Deen, ‘Ali bin ‘Abdallah bin Ahmed bin Hussain (al-Sulaibiyyah) bin ‘Abdallah bin Shaykh bin Sultan al-Awliya’, ‘Abdallah Al-‘Aidroos Ba-‘Alawi Al-Hussaini.

Birth & Early Life:
He was born in Tarim, in a family which doesn’t need any introduction. He was brought up in the arms of his greatly knowledgeable and father and pious mother which tended him towards the sacred path of Allahﷻ inwardly and outwardly.
He was very intelligent and had quick memorization skills, thus in no-time, he memorized the Qur’an and some of the text of Imam Nawawi’s book “al-Minhaj” and several other texts in the presence of his father and other tutors.

Later, he focused to seek knowledge of other Islamic sciences and henceforth he studied various sciences like Tafsir, Hadith, Fiqh and Tasawwuf. He had been in the service and presence of numerous great Scholars like:
1. al-Habeeb ‘Abdur Rahman bin ‘Abdallah Ba Haroon.
2. al-Faqih Muhammad bin Ahmed Ba Jubayr.
3. al-Habeeb Ahmed bin ‘Abdur Rahman Balfaqih.
4. al-Habeeb Muhammad bin ‘Umar Ba Faqih.
5. Mufti of Tarim, ‘Abdallah bin Abi Bakr al-Khateeb, etc.
Since his childhood, he was the friend and colleague of al-Imam al-Habeeb ‘Abdallah bin ‘Alawi al-Haddad, popularly known as Imam al-Haddad. From their student life, they used to read books and discuss their texts, all night without blink of an eye.

Migration & services:
He migrated to India around 1070 A.H (1659 C.E) to meet his brother al-Imam al-Habeeb Ahmed. He stayed in Deccan for years until his brother passed away form this ephemeral world.
Habeeb Ali continued to stay and travel different cities of India intending meet various Masters (Shuyukh), thus he met with Shaykh Muhammad Saif Uddin al-Mujaddidi, the Grandson of Mujaddid alf-Sani Shaykh Ahmed Sirhindi, in the year 1089 A.H (1687 C.E) at the city of Sirhind and received the permissions of Naqshbandi Sufi Order from him.

Leaving the Sheikhdom to his scholarly brother and In order to serve Islam in other provinces with his knowledge and wisdom Habeeb ‘Ali turned towards Aurangabad, a city of Maharashtra State, India where the Sultan of India, Aurangzeb Alamgir, greatly welcomed him and had huge respect for him. Thus, he stayed here for a long period of time happily feeding the poor and needy, being affable to the outsiders and oppressed and beholding many other honorable characteristics.
Later, he wished to return Tarim, but the people of the city of Surat disliked his return and wished for his presence to be here in order to fill the gap left by the demise of his brother al-Imam al-Habeeb Muhammad bin ‘Abdallah Al-‘Aidroos. So, he stayed in Surat until he departed from this world to the life hereafter.

This great Imam and gnostic of his time passed away in the night of 16th or 18th Shawwal, in the year 1131 A.H (1718 C.E) and was buried in Surat. His blessed shrine is still the place of visit for the seekers of truth and reality i.e. the path of Allahﷻ and his Beloved Prophetﷺ.
