Sayyidah ʿĀʾisha al-Ṣiddīqah reported: There was a Yahūdī who had settled in Makkah. On the night the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ was born, he said:
“O people of Quraysh! Has a child been born among you tonight?”
They replied: “We do not know.”
He said: “Look into it, for this very night the Prophet of this nation has been born. Between his shoulders there is a mark (the Seal of Prophethood).”
So they went and asked, and it was said to them: “A son has been born to ʿAbdullāh ibn ʿAbd al-Muṭṭalib.”
The Yahūdī then went with them to his mother, and she brought the child out to them. When the Yahūdī saw the mark, he fell unconscious and exclaimed:
“Prophethood has departed from the Children of Isrāʾīl! O people of Quraysh, by Allāh, 𝗵𝗲 (ﷺ) 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝘀𝘂𝗰𝗵 𝗽𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿 𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘁𝘀 𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝘀𝗽𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗱 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗘𝗮𝘀𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗪𝗲𝘀𝘁.”
Narrated by Yaʿqūb ibn Sufyān with a Ḥasan (good) isnād as mentioned in Fatḥ al-Bārī.
It was also narrated by al-Ḥākim in al-Mustadrak (2/601–602), and by al-Bayhaqī in Dalāʾil al-Nubuwwah (1/108–109).
