Martyrdom of Hazrat Meesam e Tammar (ra) :

Hazrat Meesam-e-Tammar (r) was a slave belonging to a woman of Bani Asad. Imam Ali (a) purchased this slave from the woman and set him free in the way of Allah.
He used to sell dates in Kufa Market and on this account he was known as Meesam-e-Tammar. Hazrat Meesam e Tammar was a true lover of Allah, Prophet Muhammad (s) and his Ahlulbayt (a). Two things grew in his Heart: faith in Islam and love for Imam Ali (a). Hazrat Meesam used to take lessons from Imam Ali (a). He taught him ilm-e-Manaya wal Balaya and ilm-e-Taweel.

Once Imam Ali (a) told him that he would be hanged on account of love for his master. He also gave address of that tree on which he would be hanged.
Hazrat Meesam was also informed that his tongue would be cut out because he would not stop praising his master [Imam Ali(a).

After getting this information, it is recorded in history that he used to go to the palm-tree until it was cut down, & then he looked after its trunks pointed out by Imam Ali (a),clean the place & water the trunk & offer prayers.He had visited the palm-tree for more than 20 years.

Months and years passed by, Hazrat Meesam (r) kept waiting for the time. Finally in 60 AH,One day Ubaidullah ibn Ziyad, the Governor of the place, called him & asked him about his connection with Imam Ali(a). Meesam (r) replied that Imam Ali (a) was his master & that he loved him. Ubaidullah ibn Ziyad then asked him. “Did your master tell you anything about your end?”
Hazrat Meesam-e-Tammar replied, “Yes, he informed me that I would be hanged and that my tongue would be cut.” Ubaidullah ibn Ziyad sent a roar of laughter. Ubaidullah said, “I will see that your master did not tell you the truth. I will see that his prophecy is belied.” Hazrat Meesam said, “My master’s words are true because he got that information from Allah.Prophet (s) was informed by Gabriel & Gabriel came with message of Allah.”

Ubaidullah ibn Ziyad ordered Meesam (r) to be jailed & then ordered him to be crucified. Meesam (r) was brought to the same tree to be hanged as pointed out by Imam Ali (a). He began singing the praises of his master, & about a thousand people gathered to see Meesam being hanged. Even after being hanged, his tongue went on singing the praises of Imam Ali (a). Ubaidullah was informed about this & the tyrant ordered to cut the tongue of Meesam.

Thus the prophecy of Imam Ali (a) came true & Meesam (r) died after his tongue was cut out on 22 Zilhajj 60 H.

Hazrat Meesamع Ne Hairan Hokar Maula Se Arz Kiya, Maula Yeh Naam Toh Meri Ammi Ne Rakha Tha Aur Yeh Naam Mere Walidain Ke Siwaye Koi Nahi Janta, Yahan Me SALIM Naam Se Jana Jata Hu.
