■ What Kind of People Does Allah ﷻ Love?
🎙 Shaykh ul Islam Prof. Dr. Muhammad Tahir-ul-Qadri
Hazrat Sa’d bin Abi Waqqas (رضي الله عنه) narrated that Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said:
❝Indeed, Allah ﷻ loves a servant who is pious (taqi), self-sufficient (ghani), and hidden (khafi).❞
This hadith is recorded in Sahih Muslim and highlights three qualities that Allah ﷻ loves in His servants.
Who is the Pious (Taqi) Servant?
A pious servant is someone who abstains from sins and turns wholeheartedly to Allah ﷻ in obedience. This includes fleeing from negligence and being attentive in fulfilling Allah’s commands, avoiding disobedience, and striving toward righteous deeds.
Who is the Self-Sufficient (Ghani) Servant?
A self-sufficient servant is one who relies on Allah ﷻ alone, detaching themselves from greed, materialism, and dependence on others. Such a person focuses on the Hereafter rather than the fleeting pleasures of this world.
Who is the Hidden (Khafi) Servant?
A hidden servant is one who avoids seeking fame or recognition, instead keeping their worship and devotion sincere and private. Their heart remains connected to Allah ﷻ, even in the midst of worldly distractions.
How Do These Qualities Develop?
These qualities are achieved by turning away from everything that distances a person from Allah ﷻ and instead fleeing toward Him:
From sins to repentance:
A person leaves a life of disobedience and turns toward a life of obedience and submission.
From negligence to attentiveness:
They shift their focus from worldly distractions to acts of worship and remembrance of Allah ﷻ.
From greed to contentment:
By abandoning excessive desires for worldly gains, they cultivate love and longing for Allah ﷻ.
From worldly attachments to the love of Allah ﷻ: They forsake being engrossed in worldly matters and instead seek closeness to their Creator.
From servitude to Shaytan to servitude to Allah ﷻ: They free themselves from the trap of following Shaytan and dedicate themselves fully to Allah ﷻ.
This process of fleeing to Allah ﷻ involves a complete shift of the heart and soul from everything besides Him to focusing solely on His love, remembrance, and obedience.
The Qur’an describes this beautifully in Surah Adh-Dhariyat (51:50):
❝So flee to Allah.❞
As a person increasingly embodies these qualities, their inner state transforms. Such individuals, even while living in this world, remain in a state of seclusion with Allah ﷻ. They are physically present among people but spiritually connected to their Creator.
The one who achieves this state of detachment (uzlah) and connection with Allah ﷻ is never truly alone. Wherever they are, they are in seclusion with Allah ﷻ. Their heart and soul are protected from the distractions of the world, and their focus remains fixed on their Lord.
This is the ultimate meaning of fleeing to Allah ﷻ—to be with Him no matter where you are, to live in the world without being consumed by it, and to let your heart remain steadfast in His remembrance.
