36. The Deputation of al-Sadif

    He (Ibn Sa’d) said: Muhammad Ibn ‘Umar informed us; he said: Umar Ibn Yahya Ibn Sahl Ibn Abi Hathmah related to me on the authority of Shurahbil lbnAbd al-‘Aziz al-Sadifi, he on the authority of his
    ancestors; they said:
    Our deputation consisting of about nineteen members waited on the
    Apostle of Allah, may Allah bless him; we had caps on (our heads), waistwrappers (izar) and sheets. They met the Apostle of Allah, may Allah
    bless him, between his house and the pulpit. They sat down without
    greeting. He (the Prophet) said: Are you Muslims? They said: Yes, He
    said: Why did you not greet? They stood up and said: May peace be on
    you, 0 Prophet! and Allah’s mercy be on you! He said: On you be peace!
    Sit down. They sat down and asked him about the timings of prayers and
    he informed them about it.
