WHAT IS MEANT BY HAJJ MABRUR?

WHAT IS MEANT BY HAJJ MABRUR?

Habib Ali al-Jifri (may Allah protect him and benefit us by him) asks what is meant by the term hajj mabrur?

All praise is for Allah.

Our master Muhammad ﷺ said: “The performance of `umrah is an expiation for the sins committed between it and the previous `umrah; and the reward of hajj mabrur is nothing less than Paradise.”

The Mother of the Believers, Sayyidatuna Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) said: “O Messenger of Allah, us women consider jihad to be the best of actions. Should we not perform jihad?”
He replied: “No. Rather, the best form of jihad is hajj mabrur.”

What is meant by the term hajj mabrur which is the best form of jihad and the reward for which is Paradise?

A variety of answers have been given in response to this question.

In one hadith the Prophet ﷺ said that it is: “Giving food and spreading peace.”

Ibn `Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said it is: “`Ajj (yelling) and thajj (flowing),” meaning raising one’s voice saying ‘labbayk’ and slaughtering the sacrificial animals in order to feed the pilgrims.

Another opinion is that the pilgrim does not detract from his hajj by committing any sins.

Other opinions are that it is an accepted hajj or one in which there is no ostentation or reputation-seeking or one in which the person performing it abides by all the rulings.

There is no doubt that all of these definitions are backed up by scriptural references as well as having a linguistic basis. Therefore it is possible to summarise the meaning of hajj mabrur in three points:

1. Sincerity

The bare minimum level of sincerity needed in order for your hajj to be mabrur is that you seek Allah’s pleasure alone in performing it. There must be no ostentation or reputation-seeking in it.

In this regard the Prophet ﷺ said: “Actions are only by intentions. Each person shall only have what he intends.”

You can elevate your intention by intending sincere repentance such that your spiritual state becomes higher after hajj. Up until very recently, people considered hajj to be a means of being elevated from one spiritual state to a higher spiritual state. After hajj you should no longer be neglectful of your obligations nor persistently commit minor sins or any major sins.

The highest level of sincerity during hajj is that nothing other than Allah enters your heart. This is a precious gift and a lofty station which is not easily attained. However, gifts such as these constantly flow forth from the treasure troves of Allah’s bounty. He is the Most Generous and He does not turn away those you place their hopes in Him.

2. Wholesome Provision

The pilgrim should not fund his hajj with money that is not pleasing to Allah. This includes money spent on food, clothing, transport and other expenses incurred during the hajj as well as the maintenance of dependents left behind such as his wife and children.

The bare minimum in order for your hajj to be mabrur is that your money should not be from an unlawful source such as theft, bribery, fraud, usury or that is wrongly taken from others.

In a hadith it is mentioned: “If a man leaves for hajj with money which is pure, places his foot on the stirrup [of his riding animal], and says labbayk Allahumma labbayk , a caller from the heavens will call out: ‘labbayk wa sa`dayk. Your provision is lawful, your riding animal is lawful and your hajj is mabrur with no sin.’ But if a man leaves his home with filthy provision, places his foot on the stirrup and says ‘labbayk Allahumma labbayk’ a caller from the sky will call out: ‘la labbayk wa la sa`dayk. Your provision is unlawful, your spending is unlawful and your hajj is not mabrur.’”

If you perform hajj with money which is filthy

Then you have not performed hajj – only your camels have

Beyond this, the pilgrim may reach a high level of scrupulousness such that he stays away from any doubtful sources of wealth and chooses only the best and purest of his wealth with which to perform hajj.

3. Excellent Performance

The pilgrim should perform the rites according to the rulings of the Sacred Law whilst safeguarding his heart and limbs from everything that is not pleasing to Allah. He should busy himself with remembering Allah and not fall into argumentation or foul speech.

The bare minimum in order for the hajj to be mabrur is to fulfil the integrals and obligatory elements of the hajj as well as to abstain from the things that invalidate it and the things that are prohibited during it. Along with this, the pilgrim should do his utmost to say ‘labbayk’ and generally remember Allah in abundance, to feed people and interact with them in the best way.

The pilgrim can then seek to perfect his hajj by avidly performing its recommended acts, following the example of the one who said ﷺ: “Learn your rites from me directly.” He should abstain from disliked things and perform the rites with the utmost attention to detail. He should not waste his time in superfluous permissible speech but rather should be preoccupied with remembrance of Allah, recitation of the Qur’an, supplication, pleading with Allah and reflection. His heart should be in a constant state of humility which is then reflected in his appearance and his interaction with others.

It is in this way that the hajj will be mabrur the reward for which is Paradise. The bounty of Allah is vast and unlimited and He is the Most Generous.

O Allah, protect the pilgrims who are coming to Your House and accept their rites for indeed they have come by Your bounty to receive Your bounty. Bless the good amongst them and accept the wrongdoers by their virtue. Return them to their homelands safely. Give us a great portion of what You pour into their hearts. Do not deprive us of the opportunity of performing hajj and visiting your Prophet, the Beloved, the Chosen One ﷺ.

Translator’s note: based on the above, the term hajj mabrur could be translated as ‘a complete and accepted hajj.’

Beware Tablighi Jamaat

The movement of Tableeghi Jamaat is being utilised by the enemies of Islam as an effective instrument in their struggle to prevent the emergence of a true  Islamic movement in Europe and elsewhere in the world. Therefore, it is incumbent on all Muslims to disown it and discourage its activity in every way. The British were continually looking for ways of infiltrating and subverting Islam. They kept, through their comprehensive spy network, a very careful eye, on any new Muslim group and movement. The Tableeghi Jamaat was set up under the British Rule in India. After closely watching the Jamaat for some time, the British realised that here was exactly what they were looking for, a movement that totally absorbed the energy of its members and yet did not threaten British domination in any way as the doctrine of Jihad was totally absent in this movement. They saw that instead of the Jamaat’s directing their energies outwardly towards their legitimate Kaafir enemies, was now directed inwardly towards the
rest of the Muslims. Therefore, it was a group that was allowed to
flourish. This news was spread to other interested parties.

THEIR BRAND OF TRUE ISLAM: The book that is held by many among the Tableeghi Jamaat to be as important as the study of the Quran itself is the “Teachings of Islam.” In “Teachings of Islam” the Jamaat says that there is “NO WAY to gain honour, happiness, peace and tranquility in this life OTHER THAN to adopt and firmly hold on to the work and system of Tabligh.” This statement shows that the Tableeghi Jamaat wants to be an exclusive sect of Muslims, which excludes all other Muslims who do not follow its peculiar definition of what it means to convey the message of Islam, a definition which is
clearly and erroneous and far removed from the one which Allah gives
in the Quran. One can only conclude from this statement that all other
Muslims are considered by them to be misguided.

If one reads through their five point action plan which the author of
“Teachings of Islam” says that one must put into practice and “will
automatically ensure the growth and expansion of Islam in its true
form.” He claims that this is the Prophetic method and was followed by
their ancestors and early Muslims. If one looks deeply, this five
point action plan meets the complete approval of the enemies of Islam,
since there is no mention anywhere of anything which might even
slightly inconvenience a Kaafir government. How different this is from
the actual practice of the Prophet (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam)!

>From the day the Prophet (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) made his

Prophethood public, the very people who held him in high regards
became hostile to him. Whenever the message of Islam is truly
conveyed, it strikes at the very roots of every other system with
which it comes into contact. How different is the case with the
Tableeghi Jamaat. The British Weekly, “The Economist”, the mouthpiece
of the Kufaar, in its article entitled “The Other Side of Islam” pays
glowing tribute to the Tableeghi Jamaat, saying, “So long as such
movements exist, and attract millions of Muslims, essential Islam
remains alive and well.” Even the Kaafir authorities positively
welcome what is happening, as they clearly do in the case of the
Tableeghi Jamaat, because they know that other than the true Islam is
being propagated.

Their brand of true Islam only centres around Ijtima, Ghust, Chilla
and Kitaab reading. To them, Moulood, Urs Celebrations, Esaale Sawaab,
the Recitation of Salaams, visiting of the Mazaars of Awliya Allah,
etc. are all Shirk and Bid’at.

TABLEEGHI JAMAATS ROLE IN KUFAAR COUNTRIES: The thousands of members of the Tableeghi Jamaat are utilising all their energy exclusively inwards towards other Muslims and leaves the Kaafir powers to pursue their Godless exploitation of the Muslims completely unimpeded. They have defined Jihad to be “spreading the Kalima of Allah and enforcing of Allah’s Commandments.” (Teachings of Islam). In the very same book,
under the heading of “General Principles”, the following point is made – “No controversial matter or points of secondary importance to be discussed at any time …. and confine all talk to the main points of Tabligh.” Thus, a programme originally designed to ensure that the
adherents of Tableeghi Jamaat did not come into conflict with the
British authorities in India has now been extended to include all
aspects of Kufaar domination in the world. The members of the Jamaat
are actually forbidden to question it at all. No wonder the enemies of
Islam are delighted.

This is the reason why the Tableeghi Jamaat moves freely in Kufaar
countries in Europe and the rest of the world, while other Muslims are
being imprisoned, tortured, and killed on a daily basis. In Israel,
under Zionist control, the Jamaat is allowed free access to any part
to do “Allah’s Work” while Palestinian men, women and children, who
are opposing Zionist rule, are tortured and killed.

It is also not surprising that under the Apartheid government in South
Africa and under the cruel “State of Emergency” in which gatherings
were restricted and carefully monitored under the vigilant eye of the
then police force, the Ijtima’s used to draw crowds of thousands of
devotees – and there was not a single policeman in sight. It is
obvious. With the type of Islam that they portrayed of being
completely subservient to Kufaar politics and their rejection of Jihad
in all its practical aspects, this Jamaat was not even considered as a
threat. Not a word was uttered by the Jamaat’s leaders condemning the
then Apartheid regime. This is their policy throughout the world – do
not condemn the Kufaar and the Kufaar governments!

TABLEEGHI JAMAAT’S ROLE UNDER PUPPET MUSLIM GOVERNMENTS: The Jamaat
has also flourished under the puppet governments of Muslim countries
who rule in the name of they Kaafir paymasters (Israel, America,
Britain, France, etc.) – thousands upon thousands as well-behaved,
submissive Muslims praying in their mosques, quite content to live
under a system which is opposed to Islam in every way and which is
openly dedicated to the suppression of true Islam wherever it
emerges.

SOME OF THEIR MAKRUH? PRACTICES:

(1) EATING AND SLEEPING IN MOSQUES : Uninvited, they take over the
local mosques for days at a time, sleeping and eating in them and
imposing their own programme in complete disregard of the actual needs
and on-going organisation of the community concerned.

(2) RECRUITMENT DRIVES: They also cause great offence to Muslims in
the way that they disrupt the worship in the mosques they visit by
they announcements immediately after the Fard prayers and their
offensive recruitment drives. As a result of which is to keep away
from the mosque many people who would normally be present. They
encourage and force poorer ignorant Muslims to leave their family and
places of work for 3, 10, 20, 40, etc. days and go out for Ghast,
while they themselves, belonging to the upper strata in society have
accumulate enough wealth to live comfortable lives. We often hear
their women-folk, of course, after being brainwashed by their
husbands, as saying “Allah will give us Jannat for allowing our
husbands to go in the path of Allah.”

(3) THEY REGARD ALL OTHERS AS INFERIOR MUSLIMS: They always treat
those not in the Jamaat as inferior beings in need of guidance. They
often repeat the same speeches regardless of the people that they are
speaking to. Much of their activity is based on having a bad opinion
of Muslims, something in fact forbidden by Allah and completely
contrary to the Messenger (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam), who, as we
know, refused to listen to anything that would give him a bad opinion
of any of the Muslims. In “Teachings of Islam” they condemn all
Muslims as only being involved in vice and sinning. Besides, 99.9% of
their devotees in South Africa belong to the Gujerati community and
look down upon other ethnic groups!

(4) IGNORING THE MESSAGE OF ISLAM TO BE GIVEN TO THE KUFAAR: They
address their message solely to Muslims, the vast majority of whom are
as knowledgeable or more knowledgeable than they themselves are,
ignoring the Kaafir populations among whom they move, who actually are
the people to whom the message should be directed. Allah’s words are
frequently, and sometimes specifically, directed towards the Kufaar
and the efforts of the Prophet (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) and the
Companions (radiya’allahu ‘anhum ajma’een) were devoted to conveying
Islam to them (kuffar). Even when they visit the African townships,
their only aim is to “convert” the poorer African Muslims (who have
already reverted to Islam) to their brand of Islam. In fact, they do
not even pass the message of Islam to the non-Muslims in the
townships.

(5) LARGE NUMBERS THAT ATTEND THE IJTIMA: If the leaders of the
Tableeghi Jamaat are sincere, let them hold their next annual
gathering on the East bank of Jordan and let them cross the river and
march to Al-Quds and liberate it from Jewish/Zionist occupation. Let
them hold their Ijtima near the Babri Masjid in India and counter-
attack the might of Hindu extremist and capture the mosque. Lem them
hold their Ijtima near the Shia’ centre in Ottawa and take over the
centre in defence of true Sunni beliefs. They would not! The Jamaat is
only interested in increasing its number and wasting the energy of
thousand and thousand of Muslims.

When the Tableeghi Jamaat is asked about their complete indifference
to the dominance of the Kufaar, they say “We are not yet strong enough
to do anything yet.” Yet, they boast of the large numbers that attend
their Ijtima’s. The Quran says that if you are a hundred, steadfast,
you will overcome two hundred and if there are a thousand of you, you
will overcome two thousand by Allah’s permission (Surah al-Anfal:
65-6). The Tableeghi Jamaat’s lack of strength cannot be considered as
a valid excuse.

And speaking about the mass Nikahs that take place at the Ijtimas,
which is by the way, a meeting place of the rich upper class, the
grooms are immediately shoved off to sleep in some mosque for 40 days.
And after 40 days, these “spiritually enlightened” individuals qualify
as Molvis!

THE UNANSWERED QUESTIONS:

The Jamaat claims that it is a Sunnah of the Prophets and the Sahaba
and, on the other hands, it says that Molvi Ilyas is the founder of
this movement. The questions we ask, are:-

1. If, in reality, this is a Sunnah of the Prophet (sallal laahu
alaihi wasallam) as claimed, then it must be proven by authentic
Islamic books that the Prophet (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) and his
Sahaba also used to form Jamaats and do Ghast and Tableegh of Kalimah
and Salaah amongst Muslims.
2. Why was this Sunnah ignored for 1 419 years? Do we classify all the
past spiritual luminaries as anti-Sunnah?
3. If this is a Sunnah practice, then surely Molvi Ilyas cannot be its
founder. But, if he is the founder, then obviously this type of
Tableegh did not exist before him. It is a Bid’ah!

It is the religious duty of the members of Tableeghi Jamaat to clarify
the position with their Tableegh work and deceiving the Muslim
community. The answers are obvious. This is a new movement founded by
a Molvi Ilyas and definitely not a Sunnah.

THE AQEEDA OF THE TABLEEGHI JAMAAT

To have good and strong Imaan, one must have the proper Aqeeda. It is
for this reason that we quote a few un-Islamic beliefs of the leaders
of the Tableeghi Jamaat together with the proper Islamic answers. The
present Molvis and devotees of the T. Jamaat refuse to condemn the
persons who wrote such bad beliefs and to even disassociate
themesleves from such false beliefs. The un-Islamic beliefs which we
have quoted below are quotations from those individuals who possess
such beliefs and by writing them in this handbill, we have no
intention of Kufr.

FALSE BELIEF 1: “Allah can speak lies”. (“Barahine Qaatia” by Khaleel
Ambetwi; “Yakrozi” by Ismaeel Dehlwi; “Fatawa Rasheedia” by Rasheed
Ahmed Gangohi). ANSWER: Lies is a defect which is not worthy of the
Zaat of Almighty Allah and is totally Muhaal (Impossible) for Almighty
Allah. Allah is free from all shortages and defects thus making lies
Muhaal for Almighty Allah.

FALSE BELIEF 2: “The Prophet (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) had died
and is mixed in the sand.” (“Taqweeyat-ul Imaan” by Ismaeel Dehlwi).
ANSWER: It has been stated in the Hadith: “Verily, Almighty Allah has
made it Haraam upon the earth to eat the bodies of the Ambiya”. It has
also been stated that Ambiya are alive and are blessed with Sustenance
from Almighty Allah.

FALSE BELIEF 3: “Every creation, no matter how big or small, is
equivalent to a cobbler before Allah.” (“Taqweeyat-ul Imaan” by
Ismaeel Dehlwi). ANSWER: The Holy Prophet (sallal laahu alaihi
wasallam) is the most beloved Nabi of Almighty Allah. Almighty Allah
took Qasm (Oath) even on the city of the Prophet (sallal laahu alaihi
wasallam). He is the greatest of the creations of Almighty Allah. His
every word is accepted in the Court of Allah. He is a perfection in
the Attributes of Almighty Allah and Allah has not created any unique
being besides Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam).

FALSE BELIEF 4: “To think of an ox and donkey in Salaah is
permissible, but to think of the Prophet (sallal laahu alaihi
wasallam) in Salaah is Shirk (Polytheism).” (“Seerate Mustaqeem” by
Ismaeel Dehlwi). ANSWER: For a Muslim to perform any Ibaadat accepting
that it is a noble action of Rasoolullah (sallal laahu alaihi
wasallam) is the true sense of Ibaadat. If one reads Salaah thinking
of it as the Sunnah of the Prophet (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam),
then, without doubt, one will think of the Prophet (sallal laahu
alaihi wasallam). This belief creates in the mind of the performer the
thought of the Holy Prophet (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam). Not only
is the thought of the Prophet in Salaah permissible, it is also the
demand of Shari’ah that one must remember the Holy Prophet (salall
laahu alaihi wasallam) at the time of Tasha’hud. According to the
Fuqaha (Jurists) it is Waajib to believe that the Prophet (sallal
laahu alaihi wasallam) is observing you and that he is aware of your
actions.

FALSE BELIEF 5: Any person who says the Nabi to be Haazir and Naazir
is a Kaafir. (“Jawaahirul Quraan” by Ghulaamullah Khan). ANSWER: Until
and unless we do not accept Rasoolullah (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam)
as being Haazir and Naazir, the concept of Risaalat will be
incomplete. Our Prophet (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) is Shaahid,
Mubashir and Nazeer.

FALSE BELIEF 6: To commemorate the Meelad is like commemorating the
function of the Hindu deity. (“Baharine Qaatia” by Khaleel Ambethwi).
ANSWER: Meelad is a means of gaining blessings and closeness to
Almighty Allah. It is the practice of all the great predecessors. Many
sources of Shari’ah are available to prove it’s authencity. In fact,
Rasoolullah (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) observed fast on Monday as
he was born on a Monday.

FALSE BELIEF 7: If Allah wills, then he may create a million
Muhammads. (“Taqweeyatul Imaan”) A Prophet can even come after
Muhammad (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam). (“Tahzeerun Naas”) ANSWER:
The doors of Prophethood have been sealed. Muhammad (sallal laahu
alaihi wasallam) is the Seal of Prophethood. The Prophet also said
that no Prophet shall come after him. Any person who claims Nabuwat
after the Prophet (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) is a Liar, Dajjal
Kazaab and a Shaitaan.

FALSE BELIEF 8: “Rahmatul Lil Alameen” (Mercy unto the Worlds) is not
a special title of the Prophet (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam), but the
Ummati are also “Rahmatul Lil Alameen”. (“Fatawa Rasheedia”) ANSWER:
“Rahmatul Lil Alameen” is the unique quality of Rasoolullah (sallal
laahu alaihi wasallam) as stated in the Holy Quran.

Note: To believe all these above mentioned false “Islamic” beliefs
makes one a hypocrite, and one is included in the ranks of the Shia,
Rafazi, Khaarijite, Qadiani, Ghair-Muqallid (Ahle Hadith), Tabligi,
Deobandi, Maudoodi, Ahle Quran (People of Quran), etc. which are
totally out of Islam. Any person who falsely claims to be the true
Mahdi is misguided and a Faasiq. Any person who says that Allah can
lie, that the Prophet’s (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) knowledge are
like those of animals, that the Prophet Muhammad (sallal laahu alaihi
wasallam) is not the Final Messenger, that the swearing of the Sahaba
does not make one a criminal, that the Prophet’s knowledge is less
than Shaitaan, etc. IS A KAAFIR (totally out of the folds of Islam).
We should not perform Salaah or associate with such persons as their
companionship is detrimental to our Imaan.

IN CONCLUSION:

The members of Tableeghi Jamaat have become extremely unpopular with
many communities of Muslims throughout the world and even in South
Africa. However, many continue to tolerate them. In fact, what they
do, in the manner of Christian evangelists, is to play on the guilt of
insecure people and then offer them an emotional environment in which
they can redeem themselves and find others in a similar plight who are
ready for the same treatment. Such “conversions” are frequently very
superficial and sometimes superficially quite dangerous for the
individuals concerned.

As we have seen, the ludicrous claim is made that the programme of the
Tableeghi Jamaat comprises in every respect the way followed by the
Prophet (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) and his Companions (radia’llahu
‘anhum ajma’een), in their establishment of Islam. In fact, the
opposite is true. From its inception, the programme of the Tableeghi
Jamaat was designed, while giving the appearance of Islamic activity,
to leave in place the very Kaafir forces whose explicit intention was
precisely the prevention of the establishment of Islam in any real
way. In the light of all the foregoing:

1. We declare that the Tableeghi Jamaat is, by its own admission, a
deviant sect of Islam and that it is being used by the enemies of
Islam to help them in their continuing battle to prevent governance by
the laws of Allah from being re-established in the world.
2. We therefore call on the leadership of the Tableeghi Jamaat to
acknowledge that they are directly responsible for the misguidance of
millions of Muslims and to abandon their present programme which only
furthers the interest of the enemies of Allah.
3. We therefore call on all members of the Tableeghi Jamaat to reject
the subversive role they have been unwittingly persuaded to play and
leave this sect which is being used by the enemies of Islam to prevent
Allah’s Deen being restored and governance by His Laws re-
established.
4. We therefore call on all Muslims to disown the Tableeghi Jamaat and
to discourage its activities by refusing to give its members
permission to sleep in mosques and to use them for their activities.
And we call on all Muslims to reject the modernist perspective of
Islam that they have been given to and respond to Allah and His
Messenger (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) by giving their wealth and
lives to see the totality of Islam once again re-established on the
earth.

The Martyrs from Bani Hashim in Karbala

The Martyrs from Bani Hashim

The Promise of extending protection to the Holy Prophet (s.a.w.a.) and his  eligion Islam which was made by Hazrat Abu Taalib (a.s.) in the very beginning, its evidence can be seen in every period and era of history, whenever Islam was faced with heavy onslaught it was the sons of Abu  aalib (a.s.) who stood as an unflinchable shield and stoically bore the brunt of all  sorts of catastrophes and calamities including the deaths and exiles but did not budged from safeguarding Islam. Who would be unaware of the  acrifices of Hazrat Ali (a.s.) and Hazrat Jafar-e-Taiyyar  (a.s.) in the initial stages of Islam? They were always ahead in every field in every arena ever ready to sacrifice themselves in the cause of Islam. They  were true sons of Abu Taalib and real image of his selfless services. Even in Karbala at many places the examples of Abu Taalib’s sacrifice and dedications can be seen. In the epoch making event of Karbala whoever from Bani Hashim had the privilege of attaining the much coveted martyrdom was a flower from the garden of Abi Taalib. Following is a brief mention of these flowers. Today wherever the name of Islam has survived it is the fruits of their sacrifices. The Garden of Islam owes its freshness to these flowers. This fact should be born in mind that it is a gist of study and not a research work hence there may be difference in their order and number.

A) The sons of Aqeel bin Abu Taalib:

1) Abdur Rahman bin Aqeel

2) Jafar bin Aqeel

3) Muhammad bin Abi Saeed bin Aqeel

4) Abdullah bin Muslim bin Aqeel

5) Muhammad bin Muslim bin Aqeel

B) The sons of Jafar bin Abi Taalib:

1) Aun bin Abdullah bin Jafar Tayyar

2) Muhammad bin Abdullah bin Jafare Tayyar

C) The Sons of Ali Bin Abi Taalib (a.s.)

1) Abdullah bin Ali

2) Jafar bin Ali

3) Usman bin Ali

4) Abbas bin Ali

5) Abu Bakr bin Ali

D) The sons of Hasan bin Ali bin Abi Taalib (a.s.)

1) Abu Bakr bin Hasan

2) Qasim bin Hasan

3) Abdullah bin Hasan

E) The Sons of Husain bin Ali bin Abu Taalib (a.s.)

1) Ali bin Husain (Ali Akbar)

2) Abdullah bin Husain (Ali Asghar)

F) The Son of Fatema Zahra (s.a.)

1) Imam Husain bin Ali bin Abu Taalib (a.s.)

If linear graph of any of the above martyrs may be drawn then certainly it will conclude on the name of Hazrat Abu Taalib (a.s.). When the guardians of the light of Imamat i.e. the companions and friends of Imam (a.s.) sincerely sacrificed their lives then came the turn of kith and kin of Imam to make their share of sacrifices The foremost among them who entered into the
arena of martyrdom was the son of Imam Husain (a.s.) who was yet in his teens and who possessed a remarkable resemblance to the person of the Holy Prophet (s.a.w.a.) namely Hazrat Ali bin Husain Ali Akbar (a.s.). Hazrat Ali Akbar (a.s.) possessed enviable merits from maternal as well as paternal side. From paternal side it is well known while his maternal grandfather was Janabe Urwah bin Masood Saqafi who was regarded as one of the four leaders of Islam. The Holy Prophet (s.a.w.a.) sometimes named him ‘Owner of Yasin’ sometimes the like of Hazrat Isa (a.s.) and sometimes ‘the leader of Islam’

(Usuadul Ghaba, vol. 1, pg. 19, Nafsul Mahmum pg. 307)

When he desired to leave for the battle field the women folk surrounded him a pall of gloom descended on them, their hopes were crumbling, their helper was bidding them adieu, they all were wailing ‘Have mercy on our helplessness your separation is unbearable for us Hazrat Ali Akbar (a.s.) came out of his tent and climbed on the horse of Imam Husain .(a.s.) named ‘Lahaq’. At this sight tears rolled down the cheeks of Imam Husain (a.s.) moistening his beard. He raised his hands for prayers “0 lord be a witness against this people that a youth is leaving who was resembling the Holy Prophet (s.a.w.a.) most……..whenever I was desirous of seeing the holy prophet (saw) I looked at him …” In the battlefield a Yazidi soldier addressed him thus “You are related to Yazid. Think about this relation If you wish we can grant amnesty to you” He retorted “It is more necessary to think about the relation with the Holy Prophet (s.a.w.a.)”

(Maqtalul Muqarram pg.311)

NOTE: This thinking was prevalent in every age and era that personal relation and closeness was preferred over religion.

He recited war ode thus: “I am Ali, the son of Husain bin Ali By the house of Allah we are nearer to  prophet” Then he attacked ferociously sometimes at the right wing and with same ferocity  pounced on left wing. Whoever confronted him perished, he dispatch 120 persons to Hell…..when the thirst became severely intense he rushed to his compassionate father who on seeing his thirst stricken son, He could not control his tears and consoled him by saying “Your grandfather the Holy prophet (s.a.w.a.) will quench your thirst” . Saying this he gave his tongue in his mouth then placed his ring on his tongue Hazrat Ali Akbar returned in the battlefield and even in such a debilitating thirst he killed two hundred more enemies. Murrah bin Munqad Abdi said ‘ let the sins of whole Arab be upon my shoulders if I do not make his mother sorrowful ” He smote the spear on his back and struck sword on his head. A wedge appeared in his head and he hung his hands around the neck of his horse. The horse went towards terai, there the enemies assailed him with sword and chopped his body in pieces.

He called aloud “O father accept my salam” my grandfather the Holy prophet
(s.a.w.a.) is fetching me water and says the same is ready for you “Imam Husain (a.s.) reached on the mutilated corpse of his teenage son and threw
himself upon him, placed his cheek upon his and said “Life after you is
meaningless, So audacious they are regarding God, how daringly they have
trampled the dignity of the Holy Prophet (s.a.w.a.). It is unbearable for your
father and grandfather that you seek help from them and they could not help you …” Then he filled his cupped-up palm with the sacred blood of Hazrat Ali
Akbar (a.s.) and threw it towards the sky, from which not a single drop returned back- He could not stop the stream of flowing tears, gave a call to the children from his camp and with their help took the corpse in his tent. After seeing the blood-smeared corpse of such a beautiful youth even the women-folk could not contain their grief and started beating their heads and chests and tearing their hairs out of sorrow. Janabe Zainab (a.s.) was at the forefront, she flung herself upon the body and wept bitterly. According
to the narration of Tabari and Khwarizmi all the women were so aggrieved that they left their tents and came out, it was obvious since their grief was really inconsolable.

Abdullah bin Muslim After this Janabe Abdullah bin Muslim stepped into the battlefield, he was paternally related to Janabe Aqeel (a.s.) and maternally related to Hazrat Ali (a.s.). He made many fierce attacks. Yazid bin Reqaad Al-Jahni targeted an arrow towards him, he tried to thwart the arrow with his hand but the shot was so powerful that the arrow passed through the hand and pierced the forehead, while his hand also got stuck with the arrow. Despite his consistent efforts he could not release his hand. He invoked God “0 Lord be a witness that they thought us weak and considered us degraded. Kill them the way they killed us.” Yet he was praying when a wretched soldier hit a spear on his chest because of which he
lost his balance on the horse and fell on the ground. The sons of Janabe Jafar and Aqeel. After this the sons of Janabe Jafar and Aqeel came in the arena of death one after  nother for the protection of the Imam of their time and beloved of the Holy Prophet (s.a.w.a.) and made their sacrifices.

Later Aun bin Abdullah and Muhammad Bin Abdullah came in the battlefield turn by turn and fought gallantly.

When Abdur Rehman bin Aqeel came on the scene he recited this war-ode:

“I am the son of Aqeel know my position I am Q descendant of Hashim the heights of veracity The peak of greatness He is Husain the great The chief of youths of paradise”

Then came his brother Jafar bin Aqeel and said “I am a Talebi
and Abtahi youth This Husain is the purest of pure”

After that Abdullah bin Aqeel came in the battle field and kept fighting until he was badly bruised and battered and collapsed on the ground. Usman bin Khalid Tarnimi killed him.

The Sons of Imam Hasan (a.s.) Abu Bakr bin Hasan who was also known Abdullah Akbar came in the battlefield and laid his life for the cause of Imam (a.s.). Then proceeded Qasim bin Hasan when Imam Husain (a.s.) saw him he embraced him and  hed tears they both wept profusely. He advanced towards the battlefield in a very strange attire, He had a sword in his hand and a mere robe on the body even one of his footwear were broken.

Precisely speaking he neither wore an armor nor war boots. Despite such lack of war preparations he was so desirous of martyrdom and so much a brim with courage that neither his gait staggered nor did his hands quiver. The majority of adversaries could not scare him a bit and he recited the war-ode thus “If you all do not know me, then I am the son of Hasan, the son of the Holy prophet (s.a.w.a.) This Husain has been rendered helpless by you. ou have also deprived him of water.”

In another war ode he said

“I am Qasim a descendant of Ali by Kaaba, we are nearest to the Holy Prophet. Shimr and Ibne Ziyad are very far from him”.

Hamid bin Muslim narrates that such a youth came in battlefield who seemed to be a shining piece of moon and he was faced with the stoned hearted men Amr bin Sa’ad bin Nafil Al Azdi who attacked from all sides and started narrowing the siege.

Hamid bin Muslim asked Amr “What are you up to? What do you want to do with this young man? What is the need of so many soldiers?”

He replied “I will make a heavy onslaught” and he dealt heavy blow on Qasim’s head because of which he fell on the ground on his face and gave a call” O Uncle ” When Imam Husain (a.s.) heard this he rushed towards him and attacked, Amr tried to ward off the attack by hand and lost his hand in  the process, he shrieked so loudly that the whole troop came to his rescue.

When the dust settled Imam Husain (a.s.) was near Qasim who due to extreme pain was rubbing his heels. Imam Husain (a.s…) was reciting the elegy “It is so difficult for your uncle that you call him and he could not reply and when he reached you, could not help you. Alas! the enemies are more in number and helpers are so few”.

Imam Husain (a.s.) lifted him in his hands while his head was on his shoulders and his feet was dragging on the ground. Imam Husain (a.s…) laid him down by the side of Ali Akbar. The Sons of Hazrat Ali Bin Abi Taalib (a.s.) When Bani Hashim were embracing martyrdom one after the another, Hazrat Abbas addressed his brothers thus ” Dear brothers go ahead and defend your master and leader and see that do not leave your position unless you are not killed” After this the brothers of Abbas came on the front and faced deaths turn by turn.

Abdullah bin Ali was killed by Hani bin Sabit Hazran. According to Ibn Shahr Ashob, When Jafar bin Ali came on the front Khule Asbahi shot such an arrow which hit his eye or on forehead because of which he fell from the horse. Then came Usman bin Ali again who was hit by arrow by Khuli Asbahi due to which he fell on the ground and a man from Bani Waraam killed him ( Hazrat Ali (a.s.) named him after one of the beloved companions of the Holy Prophet(s.a.w.a.),Usman bin Mahzun, who was a great man, used to fast at day time and was worshipping at night. He was first to be buried at Jannatul Baqi. According to Sheikh Abbas Qummi after his death the Holy Prophet (s.a.w.a.) kissed him. Hazrat Abul Fazl Al Abbas (a.s.) It needs
quite an amount of courage to write about him. How to write about him who was a beloved brother of Husain, source of solace for Zainab, Centre of hope for the womenfolk, the standard bearer of the troop. He was so handsome that He  was named Qamar-e-Bani Hashim (The moon of Hashmite Clan) He was physically so strong that while astride on horse his feet were not contained in stirrup rather they touch the ground, his bravery was so phenomenal that the multitude of enemy’s army could not frighten him or even bother him to the least. The martyrdom of near and dear ones, separation of brothers and nephews and above all loneliness of Imam Husain (a.s…) was unbearable for him. The cries of “Oh Thirst, Oh Thirst’ mincing the heart. He wished to take leave from Imam (a.s.) so that he can sacrifice himself for the Imam of the time. On the other hand Hazrat Abbas (a.s.) was an invaluable asset for Imam Husain (a.s…). His name itself was enough to send the shivers down the spine of the enemies it meant a spell of permanent fear for the enemies and assurance for the womenfolk. When he expressed his desire to leave. Imam Husain (a.s.) replied “O brother you are the standard bearer of my army, solace of my heart and sign of my troop”.

He requested again “I had enough of these hypocrites and I want to take
revenge”. Imam (a.s.) finally agreed and said “Go and fetch some water for the children” Hazrat Abbas (a.s.) came on the front. He admonished them and warned them of chastisement of Hell but of no avail (Here is a point to ponder that in such circumstances where blood thirsty enemies can be seen everywhere. Hazrat Abbas (a.s.) was advising them, calling them towards God, warning them about hereafter. Which shows that reformation of an enemy is more preferable then exacting revenge from him. Really how large hearted Ahle Bait (a.s.) were! How much concerned they were about the reformation of others, not for a single moment they gave preference to personal benefit over religion. One more thing becomes clear that they always performed their duties of advice and admonition and preaching and propagation. If it produced any effect then nothing like it otherwise they fulfilled their responsibilities). He turned towards Umar Sa’ad and said:

He is Husain, the son of the Holy Prophet’s (s.a.w.a.) daughter. You slaughtered his companion and relatives His near ones are thirsty. Give them water. Their hearts are roasted due to thirst. Despite of it he is saying that leave me, I will quit Iraq and Arabia for you and go towards India or Rome . This speech made such an impact upon enemies that some of them started weeping. But the accursed Shimr thundered ” O son of Abu Turab ! Even if the whole world turned into water and if left to us we will not allow them to have a single drop of water unless they paid allegiance to Yazid.”

Hazrat Abbas (a.s.) returned towards the camp and narrated the dialogues to Imam Husain (a.s…) and saw the young children crying for water. He couldn’t bear the pathetic plight of the children, he climbed on the horse, carried water bag on the shoulder arid entered the battlefield. The four thousand soldiers encircled him and showered arrows on him. Such a mammoth crowd could not daunt him.

He fearlessly sliced the waves of pouncing soldiers and moved ahead unhindered and unobstructed. The flag of Al-Hamd was fluttering above his head. It was difficult for the enemies to differentiate between him and Hazrat Ali (a.s.) for his very style of attack, his expertise in duel and his dexterity in
driving off the crowd was very much like Hazrat Ali (a.s.). History cannot
produce two warriors of such striking similarities in their inimitable feats of
prowess as were Hazrat Ali (a.s.) and Hazrat Abbas (a.s.), why not for Abbas
was after all son of Ali. Nobody could prove tenacious enough to face him for long and with an incredible ease he led his horse into the river. He filled
water in his cupped palm but soon was reminded of the thirst of Imam Husain (a.s.) and his restless children and he threw off the water. He said: “It  is not my religion that I quench my thirst and Husain and his children should remain thirsty” he filled the water bag and turned his horse towards the camp. The multitude of fiendish soldiers again surrounded him. But even courage will exude pride in getting associated with him, he cleaned his path quite easily, opponents came one after the another and bit the dust in no time. While his horse was cantering towards the camp his sword was doing the needful, he was saying my life be sacrificed for Husain, I am Abbas the ‘water fetcher’ he kept on moving ahead. Until Zaid bin Al- Reqaad Al-Jahni with the help of Hakim bin Tufail Al Nabsi deceptively from behind a tree dealt a heavy blow on his right hand. The blow was so severe that, his right was amputated. He said: “By God though you would have severed my right hand still I will defend my religion and my Imam”.

Just think that, how much concerned he is for safeguarding Islam and Imam of the time despite his thirst, injuries amputated hand bathed in blood. The crowd of calamities and painful wounds could not dampen his spirits if at all he is worried then for his religion and for Imam (a.s.) We wish that if we could be blessed with only a drop of such faithfulness and loyalty for our Imams (a.s.). Though his right hand was chopped but his bravery and valor was least affected. His earnest desire was to deliver water to Imam Husain (a.s.) and his children. As he was moving ahead Hakim bin Tufail again struck sword on his left hand deceptively from behind a tree and thus his left arm was also severed. When the enemies saw this they were encouraged. They surrounded him from all sides andshot-arrows. Hazrat Abbas (a.s.) was all alone that too deprived of both the hands, how could he ward off the attack and how could he remove the arrows One arrow pierced the water bag and another penetrated into his heart. One wretched man hit chopper on his head which made a cleft in his head. He collapsed and came on the ground it is not known how he would have touched the ground since he did not have hands to support while falling He called ” My salaam to you () Abu Abdullah” Imam Husain (a.s.) came. How did he come there by his will power or love of his brother brought him there it cannot be imagined .When Imam Husain (a.s.) reached at the site of Hazrat Abbas (a.s.) he saw the blood smeared body of his beloved brother hands amputated badly bruised body and smothered head how would his eyes had seen such a scene and how would he had consoled himself ? Imam Husain (a.s.) said “O Abbas my Spine has lost support and means of life reduced”.

Imam Husain (a.s.) did not bring the corpse of Janabe Abbas (a.s.) to his camp perhaps because of his greatness so that he may have a separate shrine. The way he enjoyed a distinct, position in the army of Imam Husain (a.s.) so he should have a distinction even in mausoleum. It may become the source of hope for the needy and their desires be fulfilled from here. That hordes and hordes of angels should descend for paying their tributes and visitation. A glance at the grandeur of shrine is enough to envisage the sublimity of his status on the day of Qiyamat.

When Imam Husain (a.s.) walked towards the camp he was sorrowful broken hearted and weeping profusely. He was wiping his tears from his sleeves and was saying “Is there anybody who could help us ? Is there anybody to support us ? Is there any righteous man who could aid us? When Imam Husain reached at his camp then Janabe Sakina and Janabe Zainab (a.s.) came to him and inquired about the fate of Janabe Abbas (a.s.). When Janabe Zainab (a.s.) heard of his martyrdom she cried aloud, the entire group of women followed her in weeping and wailing. Even Imam Husain (a.s.) was mourning at his brother. Hazrat Ali Asghar (a.s.) Though the
death of every companion of Imam Husain (a.s..) aggrieved him but the martyrdom of  Janabe Abbas (a.s..) left an indelible mark of sorrow on his heart. Whata painful scene it was when Imam Husain (a.s..) was left alone at the entrance of the tent, the corpse of the martyrs scattered everywhere, the voice of mourning of women was filling the air and as Imam Husain (a.s..) expressed his call for help then their wailing reached its peak.

Sibt Ibn Jauzi writes in ‘Tazkirat Al-Khwas’ pg:-143: “When Imam Husain (a.s..) heard the crying of an infant, he carried that child towards the soldiers and said “If you do not have mercy on me then at least feel pity for this infant.” But they all were heartless men no one was moved. Hurmula shot an arrow and the infant was slaughtered in the arms of his father. When Imam (a.s.) saw this tears gushed forth from his eyes. He invoked God.” 0 Lord decide between me and this nation. They invited us with faith and assurance for help rather they are killing us.” There came a divine voice,” O! Husain Bid farewell to this child, a midwife has been appointed for him in this paradise.”  Imam Husain (a.s.) came down from his horse dug a grave from his sword and buried the  blood-bathed corpse of Hazrat Ali Asghar (a.s.) After this began the sanguine spectacle of Imam Husain (a.s..)’s heroic martyrdom.
