Shaykh Sidi al-Buzidi al-Bujrafi (q)
The Shaykh was born in Banī Shikār in the year 1925. At a young age he memorised the Quran under the guidance of his father, who himself had memorised it by heart. His father was also an expert in the sciences of Islamic Law and had taken the spiritual path directly from Shaykh Ahmad al-‘Alawī(q).
At the age of 19 his father took Sidi al-Būzīdī(q) to visit Sidi Muhammādī Bil-Hājj(q). It was from Sīdī Muhammādī Bil-Hājj(q) that he took the litany of the ‘Alawī order. After a while Sidi Muhammadi Bil-Hajj(q) instructed Sidi al-Buzidi(q) to continue his spiritual training under the guidance of Moulay Sulaimān(q). Moulay Sulaiman(q) would later on be the successor of Sidi Muhammadi Bil-Hajj(q) after his veiling from the world.
Sidi al-Buzidi(q) served the zāwiya of Moulay Sulaiman(q) day and night and never left his teacher’s side. He dedicated himself to the service of his Shaykh. Moulay Sulaimān(q) appointed him to lead the people in prayer and lead the gatherings, too. He was gifted with such a strong memory that he was able to memorise all the poems of his teacher. He was well-known for his beautiful voice and would recite his teacher’s poems in the gatherings. Moulay Sulaimān(q) became very fond of Sidi al-Buzidi(q) and eventually married him to his own daughter.
Moulay Sulaimān(q), also gave him the name al-Būzīdī and told other disciples from this day onwards not to address him as al- Yazīd(his name at birth).
Sidi al-Buzidi(q) was very influential in bringing people to the path. Even during his time working in the Army he would hold Zikr gatherings which attracted many to the path and the zawiya. Upon leaving the Army during his other jobs he also influenced and attracted many people to the zawiya which eventually became too small to accommodate all the disciples.
Such was his service to his master that when Moulay Sulaimān(q) was 80 years old and was unable to either walk or leave his house, Sidi al-Būzīdī(q) made it his own responsibility to provide and care for Moulay Sulaimān’s(q) whole family. He would wait on his teacher’s wives and children as well as the affairs of the zāwiya. Working tirelessly and providing any financial aid without keeping anything for himself.
In 1970, at the age of 103, Moulay Sulaimān(q) passed on from this world and Sīdī al-Būzīdī(q) was his authorised successor in the Shadhili Darqawi Alawi Tariqa. After two years he would move and establish his own Zawiya in Zaghanghan, Nador in Morocco. He settled here and continued the teachings of his Master.
After a life spent in service to Allah and his path, an illness over took him. Sidi al-Buzidi(q) passed away from this illness on the 29Th of December 2011 in Melilla near his home of Nador, Morocco.
May Allah sanctify his secret, raise his maqam and grant us the love of his awliya.
Fatiha.
