Hadhrat Mirzā Mazhar Jān-e-Jānān Shahīd, may Allah sanctify his secret, was born on Friday 11th Ramadān 1111 AH. He was an Alawi by descent, from the descendants of Sayyidina Imam Ali, may Allah be pleased with him.

The great Mughal emperor Aurangzeb, who was also a follower of the Naqshbandi tariqah, suggested Jān-e-Jān as his name which later turned into Jān-e-Jānān.
At the age of 18, he entered the servitude and spiritual studentship of Hadhrat Sayyid Nūr Muhammad Badāyūnī (1135 AH), a great Naqshbandi shaykh and a khalifah of Khwaja Saifuddīn Fārūqī Sirhindī (1096 AH). After four years, he received khilafah from his shaykh in the Naqshbandi Mujaddidi tariqah. When his shaykh passed away, he used to receive Fayd and spiritual training from the grave of his shaykh for about six years.

At last, his shaykh commanded him to seek a living Sufi master to strengthen the Nisbah and seek further spiritual stages in this path. Thus he went to different masters of the Naqshbandi tariqah, and spent most of his years with three Sufi masters:
- Hājī Muhammad Afzal Siyālkotī (d. 1146 AH) who received Nisbah from Khwājā Muhammad Naqshband Sirhindī and Shaykh Abdul Ahad Wahdat Sirhindī. Mirzā Mazhar received the Ijāzā of Hadith from him.
- Hāfiz Sa’adullāh (d. 11 Shawwāl 1152 AH), khalifah of Shaykh Muhammad Siddīq Sirhindī who was a son and khalifah of Khwājā Muhammad Masūm Sirhindī
- Shaykh Muhammad Ābid Sunnāmī (d. 18 Ramadān 1160 AH), khalifah of Shaykh Abdul Ahad Wahdat Sirhindī
Among his famous pupils is the great Mufassir of the Holy Quran Allamah Qādī Thanāullāh Pānīpatī (1225 AH) who wrote many books in the sciences of Fiqh, Tafsīr, Tasawwuf, among them the Tafsir al-Mazhari.
He was martyred by a Rafidhī who shot him with a gun on 7th Muharram 1195 AH, and he passed away to the eternal world in the night of Saturday 10th Muharram 1195 AH. He was buried in his khānqāh in Delhi, India.

He was famous, like the Prophet Yusuf, for his beauty. And everyone loved him because he represented beauty both inner and outer. That is the attribute of God, about whom the Beloved Prophet 
said: “God is beautiful and He loves beauty,” and it is also the attribute of the Beloved Prophet

was the most beautiful in appearance and had the best voice of all Prophets.” Because of this, Sheikh Abdur-Rauf al-Munawi said, “The Beloved Prophet
has no comparison in his beauty.”

ic Hadith. During this class, whenever the Sheikh would mention a Hadith, he would disappear through Self-Effacement, and a vision would come to him in which he would find himself sitting with the Beloved Beloved Prophet

himself. He would correct any mistakes that might occur in the Sheikh’s narration of the Hadith, and was acknowledged as a genius in the science of Hadith.

sitting in my place, while I was sitting in his. Then I disappeared and I saw him sitting in the two places. Then I saw him disappearing and I saw myself sitting in both places.”Just as before the birth of a child, milk descends into the mother’s breasts, in a similar way the inner connection with the master and the treasures of this unknown & unknowable realm open for the disciple. For this, unwavering trust for the master is the first criterion. With adab (respect) comes love for the master. Love is the key to the treasures of the realm of Ghaib. For ordinary consciousness, this is very difficult to understand as there is no inner connection. Once the realm doors are unlocked you are connected to all the masters that were present in the past, and also those who are to arrive at some future date. With this inner connection, all the inner states of awareness & tariqat and all else that is needed for transformation becomes available.
, the Naqshbandi tariqat attained to its totality. This may mean that the tariqat was incomplete. He emphasized that one can be in the world and still follow the path to an inward journey. One can continue totally in the outer world and its affairs, but deep within flows the stream of benediction and awareness. With trust and adab one remains connected with the realm of the pious masters. Remember trust and adab is not an outward exposition instead it is an understanding. And for this, no external expression is needed. Then one realizes that that the energy field of the master always envelops the aspirants.The life of Hazrat Mirza Mazhar is full of anecdotes and incidents, all of which cannot be mentioned. He was quite young when his master Noor Mohammad passed away.Once he had a vision that a congregation of masters descended from heaven. One of the masters resembled Noor Mohammed, and at this he sought confirmation from the master. At this, the master responded I am your thoughts not your master. At this Hazrat Mirza expressed agony that it was for the first time he had been inclined towards another master. At this, the master in question appeared in his true form. He was, in fact, his master.

, and on Judgment Day we will ask for his judgement in this matter.” Then he said, “There is no need to wait until the Judgment Day. We will ask the Beloved Prophet
to give his Judgment now.” He entered a deep state of contemplation in his heart and was told to read the Fatiha. This he did, and immediately the Beloved Prophet
appeared to everyone and said, “Al-Mazhar Habibullah is right and all of you are wrong.”
was in a state of great emotion and intense love of God. He experienced a great unhappiness at having spent so long in this transient world. He spent his last days in intense contemplation and, when asked, he would always say that his state was that of Annihilation and Existence in Allah, Sublime and Exalted. He increased his dhikr in his final days, and as a result of the intense light of attraction generated thereby, thousands and thousands of seekers entered into the tariqat. Each new day would bring three thousand new people to his door, and he would not let one of them go without meeting him. Finally, he became so exhausted that he scheduled only two times a day to meet with people.

1129 Hijri me 18 saal ki umr me Hazrat Noor Muhammad Badayuni Naqshbandi ke mureed hue aur Peer ki khidmat karte rahe. Aap ne Hazrat se Tasawwuf ki taaleem haasil ki.
Aap Peer ke farmaan par jangal aur sehra me mujaahida karte rahe.
6 saal ke baad ek baar jab aap ne aa’ine me dekha to aap ko Peer o murshid ka aqs nazar aaya.
Is ke baad Hazrat Noor Muhammad Badayuni ne aap ko khilaafat ata farmai.
1135 Hijri me Peer ke wisaal ke baad aap 2 saal tak Hazrat ke mazaar par haazir hokar faiz haasil karte rahe.
Phir Peer ke farmaan par aap ne 20 saal tak Shaikh Haaji Muhammad Afzal Siyalkoti se (Hadees ki taaleem), Shaikh Haafiz Safi Sa’adullāh, aur Shaikh Muhammad Aabid Sunnami se taaleem haasil ki.
Phir Aap logo ko ta’aleem aur faiz ata farmaate rahe.

Aap farmaate hain ke :
(1) Mureed ko ek sipaahi jaisa hona chaahiye jo apne Aaqa ke liye apni jaan bhi qurbaan kar deta hai.’
(2) Ek baar Peer ke saath mureed ka ta’alluq jood jaata hai to mureed ghaib se faiz ke khazaane paata rehta hai. Is ke liye sab se pehle mazboot e’atamaad zaroori hai. Adab ke saath Peer ki mohabbat aati hai. Aur ye mohabbat ghaib ke khazaane paane ki chaabi hai. Aam haalaat me Peer se baatini ta’alluq samajhna mushkil hai. Magar jab ghaib ke darwaaze khul jaate hain to saabiq masha’ikh se bhi ta’alluq ho jaata hai aur aane waale Auliya aur buzurgh bhi zaahir ho jaate hain. Aur is baatini ta’alluq se tareeqat wa ma’arifat aur roohaani rif’at ke liye jo kuchh bhi zaroori hai wo haasil ho jaata hai.
Roohaani safar andheri ghaar me safar karne jaisa hai. Jis me sirf ibaadat wa mujaahida ke saath aage badhna mushkil hai. Is safar me murshid ke faiz ki roshni hi madad karti hai. Peer aise maqaam par pahunchaate hain ke jaha par ye andhera khatm ho jaata hai aur baatin munawwar ho jaata hai. Ye noor Huzoor sallallāhu alaihi wa sallam se shuru hokar silsila ke masha’ikh se hote hue mureed tak pahunchta hai.’

(1) Ek martaba aap ne apne mureedo ko kuchh naseehat farmai. Lekin un me se kuchh shakhso ne hasad ki wajah us par aitraaz kiya. Aap ne farmaaya ‘Agar tum log meri baat ko sahi nahi maante to hum Qaazi ko bula lete hain.’ Un logo ne kaha ‘Hum Huzoor sallallāhu alaihi wa sallam ke siwa kisi qaazi ko nahi maante aur Roze qaayamat unhi se is ka faisla puchhenge.’ Aap ne farmaaya ‘Roze Qayaamat tak intazaar karne ki zaroorat nahi hai. Hum Huzoor sallallāhu alaihi wa sallam ko aaj hi faisla karne ke liye iltija karte hain.’
Aap muraaqaba me chale gaye aur Surah al-Faatiha ki tilaawat farmai. Foran Huzoor sallallāhu alaihi wa sallam waha tashreef laaye aur farmaaya ‘Mazhar Habeebullāh sahi hai aur tum log galat ho.’
(2) Ek martaba aap kuchh mureedo ke saath safar kar rahe the. Un logo ne apne saath khaane ka koi saamaan nahi liya tha aur paidal safar kar rahe the. Raaste me ek maqaam par aaraam karne ke liye rooke. Hazrat ne farmaaya ‘Tumhare liye khaana haazir hai.’ Jaise hi aap ne ye farmaaya foran ghaib se khaane se saja hua dastarkhwaan haazir ho gaya.
Phir ek martaba tez toofaan shuru hua aur shadeed thand ki wajah se sab ka haal bahot bura ho gaya. Aap ne haath uthakar dua maangi ‘Aye ALLĀH! Humare upar se is toofaan ko door kar de.’ Sab ne dekha ke un ke upar se baarish aur toofaan hat gaya jab ek mile door toofaan jaari tha aur thandi ke badle mausam bhi khushnuma ho gaya.

7 Moharram 1195 Hijri ko Budh ke roz fajr ke waqt ek shia shakhs ne aap par pistol se hamla kiya aur aap ko jakhmi kar diya.
Baadshaah ne hakeem ko bheja to aap ne ilaaj se inkaar karke hakeem ko waapas bhej diya aur farmaaya ‘Mujhe ilaaj ki zaroorat nahi hai. Maine us shakhs ko bhi maaf kar diya hai. Kyun ki main khush hu ke mujhe shahaadat ki maut mil rahi hai.’
Jum’aa ko aap Surah al-Faatiha aur Surah Yā-Sin ki tilaawat karte rahe. Phir aap ne puchha ke ‘Ghuroobe aaftaab ko kitna waqt baaqi hai.’ Shaagirdo ne bataaya ‘Taqreeban 4 ghante.’ Aap ne farmaaya ‘Abhi to bahot waqt baaqi hai.’

Sab ko mukammal ishq e Rasool ata farmae aur Sab ke Eimaan ki hifaazat farmae aur Sab ko nek amal karne ki taufiq ata farmae.
Aur Sab ko dunya wa aakhirat me kaamyaabi ata farmae aur Sab ki nek jaa’iz muraado ko puri farmae.
