THE CONDEMNATION OF DEGRADING THE PROPHET صلى الله عليه وسلم AND THE SIGNS OF SUCH PEOPLE.

According to Abu Sa’id :
“While the Prophet was distributing war gains,
Abdullah b. Dhu al-Khuwaysira al-Tamimi came and said:
‘Distribute fairly, O Messenger of Allah !’ (On his sarcasm)
Allah’s Messenger said: ‘Woe to you! Who acts fairly, if I do
not act fairly?’ Umar b. al-Khattab said: ‘Allow me to strike his
neck!’ He said: ‘Leave him alone for he has companions, one of
you would disdain his own performance of the ritual prayer
together with his performance of the ritual prayer, and his own
observance of the fast together with his observance of the fast.
They zoom off the religion as the arrow speed through the game
animal. The hunter examines the head of his arrow, but there is
nothing on it. Then he examines its cord, but there is nothing on
it. Then he examines its shaft, but there is nothing on it. Then he
examines its feathers, but there is nothing on it. It has flown
through the dung and blood (of the game animal without taking
any stain on it. These wicked people too, in like manner, go out
of religion without having any sign of a link with the religion.)’”
Agreed upon by al-Bukhari and al-Muslim. And in the
tradition narrated by Ahmed; Umar b. Khattab said: ‘O Messenger of
Allah , let me kill this wicked hypocrite.’

According to Abu Sa’id al-Khudri :
“Ali b. Abu Talib sent a piece of gold not yet taken out
of its ore, in a tanned leather container to Allah’s Messenger
from Yeman. Allah’s Messenger distributed that amongst four
persons: ‘Uyaina b. Badr, Aqra’ b. Ilabis, Zaid al-khail and the
fourth was either Alqama or Amir b. al-Tufail. On that, one of his
Companions said, ‘we are more deserving of this (gold) than
these (persons).’ When that news reached the Prophet , he said,
‘Don’t you trust me though I am the trustworthy man of the One
in the heavens, and I receive the news of heaven (i.e., Divine
Revelation) in the morning and in the evening?’ There got up a
man with sunken eyes, raised cheek bones, raised forehead, a
thick beard, a shaven head and a waist sheet that was tucked up
and he said, ‘0 Allah’s Messenger ! Be afraid of Allah 9.’ The
Prophet said: ‘Woe to you! Am I not of all the people on the
earth the most entitled to fear Allah?’ Then that man went away.
Khalid b. al-Walid said: ‘0 Allah’s Messenger ! Shall I chop
his neck off?’ The Prophet said: ‘No, may be he offer prayers.’
Khalid said, ‘Numerous are those who offer prayers and say by
their tongues (i.e., mouths) what is not in their hearts.’ Allah’s
Messenger said, ‘I have not been ordered (by Allah) to search
the hearts of the people or cut open their bellies.’ Then the
Prophet looked at him (i.e., that man) while he was walkingaway and said: ‘From the children of this (man) there will come
out (people) who will recite the Qur’an continuously and
elegantly but it will not exceed their throats. (They will neither
understand it nor act upon it.) They would go out of the religion
(i.e., Islam) as an arrow goes out through a game’s body.’ I think
he also said: ‘If I would be present at their time, I would kill them
as the nations of thamud were killed.’”
Agreed upon by al-Bukhari and al-Muslim.

Al-Muslim reported in another tradition:
“On this Umar b. al-Khattab stood and said: ‘O Allah’s
Messenger ! Shall I strike his neck?’ He said: ‘No.’ Then
Khalid the sword of Allah stood and said: ‘Shall I strike his
neck?’ He said: ‘No.’ Then he said: ‘from the children of this
(man) there will come out (people) who will recite the Qur’an
continuously and elegantly.’ He said: ‘If I would be present
during their time, I would kill them as the nations of thamud
were killed.’”
Agreed upon by al-Bukhari and al-Muslim.
